About Sean

I have extensive experience in both a classroom and private tutoring environment. I have worked for several years at three major public Universities, where I have guided students through the successful application of different fellowships/scholarships and helped their educational opportunities in undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition, I have served as a consultant in writing theses, dissertations, professional manuscripts and grants at graduate and post-graduate levels.

My mentoring style could be best-described as non-traditional. I first seek to establish a relaxed atmosphere where students are encouraged to ask questions and feel comfortable learning. In addition, I focus on teaching a foundation of concepts, rather than memorizing details. This strategy helps facilitate the student's general understanding, as well as their overall retention of the subject material. I also strive to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student in order to tailor my approach to provide a fun, interesting and yet challenging experience.

I am currently a full-time research neuroscientist in Salt Lake City. I received my Ph.D in Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Southern California in 2005. I have also authored and co-authored several publications in the fields of pharmacology and neuroscience in peer-reviewed high impact journals.

I have authored and co-authored over 20 publications in peer-reviewed high impact journals in the fields of pharmacology and neuroscience. I have helped students successfully apply for essay-based scholarships/fellowships. I have also served as a consultant in writing theses, dissertations, professional manuscripts and grants at graduate and post-graduate levels.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
