About Ryan

I taught business math at Utah State University. This business math class I taught what would be covered in most Calculus 1 classes. I also worked in pre-algebra topics and financial mathematics. Since it was an economics class I spent most of my time teaching the class about constrained optimization techniques, like lagrange multipliers. The part everyone seemed to like though was the financial math.

I hold a PhD in economics. My PhD dissertation focused on applied econometrics. Particularly, I know quite a bit about discrete choice models (if that means anything to you). That means that I know more than I probably should about statistics.

I have PhD level training in advanced mathematical techniques like constrained optimization (so calculus students I've got your back), econometrics (stats students I've got your backs too), And I can teach foundational subjects like algebra and precalc. On through more advanced maths like linear algebra.

I'm eager to meet you and help you learn more about math, economics, statistics, portuguese, computer programing in R, python, STATA, and SQL and anything else that you might need help with. Just contact me and let me know what you need to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a PhD in economics and have taught math to economics majors at Utah state University, including Algebra 1.

Econometrics

I have a PhD in economics. My dissertation mainly focused on discrete choice analysis, such as logit, and probit models. I have several published peer-reviewed journal articles that make use of this skill. I would be willing to provide a sample of my work in this area.

Economics

I have a PhD in economics. I am an expert in microeconomic theory. I can help you learn both micro- and macro-economics. My experiences in economics make me an ideal tutor for all levels of economics training from the undergraduate economics 101 all the way through PhD level. I will admit however that at the higher level graduate courses I specialized in micro and so my macro is a little weak. But for undergraduate courses, I am proficient in both. I also specialized in econometrics if you need help with that too.

Linear Algebra

I have a PhD in economics. I use linear algebra extensively in econometrics, and micro-economic theory. I also use linear algebra daily in the data industry to perform maximum likelihood estimation, as well as principle components analysis, and in many other applied settings. I know my way around an eigenvalue.

Python

I have several years experience using python in an industry setting. I mainly use python as a tool to do data science, but I have also deployed data science models in flask and django frameworks. My code is used in production settings. I can also produce links to github repositories containing my code, so that students can learn from actual code.

R

I use R regularly in my day job and I used it extensively while pursuing my PhD. I use it mainly to do regression analysis, but can also do ANOVA, t-tests, chi-squared tests, etc. As well as more esoteric statistical methods like social network analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning.

STATA

This is the software program that I used to do the statistics in my dissertation. I have used this software to do the statistics for several academic publications. I am very well versed in STATA, and I can show you how to write do files and ado files so that you can run code that will produce the results and automatically translate them into professional looking tables.

Statistics

I have a PhD in econometrics and use statistics everyday in my day job. I never got less than an A in a statistics class. And I have taught statistics, probability, calculus, and econometrics at the college level.
