Bio

I am a recent graduate of North Carolina State University's Masters program in Electrical Engineering. Most of my coursework was in abstract or applied mathematics such as information theory, communications, graph theoretical models, machine learning, and abstract algebra. In addition to a decade of work experience in technical fields, I've provided tutoring services on a volunteer basis through the school, as well as professionally for several years now.

Teaching is a complex skill which requires more than a knowledge of the subject matter. An effective teacher must understand how students think and the precise ways in which they make mistakes, and adapt lessons to suit. I try to lead students through material while helping them make their own deductions and derivations rather than simply giving them answers or equations to memorize. It's a rewarding experience which never fails to bolster my own understanding of a subject. I have tutored students in elementary mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, undergraduate physics, differential equations, and complex algebra.

I like to review new students' material in advance in order to make sure I am familiar with their curriculum and adapt to their instructor's notation and standards in order to provide a cohesive experience. If you would like to schedule a meeting, please consider also sending me a sample problem or assignment to review.

I received my BS in 2013 in Electrical Engineering from NCSU, my MS in EE from NCSU in 2015, and am currently a PhD student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at NCSU, studying non-Laplacian phenomena in RF and microwave systems. I have several years experience tutoring students in undergraduate EE/CPE subjects including computer programming, digital logic, circuit theory, and mathematics (i.e. linear time-invariant systems theory, complex algebra, and differential equations).

Experienced and patient tutor

Ian was extremely easy to work with. I feel like I not only learned the material, but understood the process behind it.

Great tutor for my son

Ian worked with my son to identify what he needed help with and was able to explain it in a way that made my son comfortable with these math topics.
