In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My major was in Latin. I have taught the subject for 21 years. I also, have a working knowledge of Classical Greek and Greek philosophy. Where my main focus has been Roman history and culture, I am also well versed in the Greeks as well.
I started my teaching career in North Carolina where I was the lead Latin teacher for a school district of 8 high schools. I have since traveled to 6 states, working to rebuild Latin programs. I have 4 former students who have become Latin teacher. I am currently working on my manuscript on a rethinking of the poet Catullus.
