University of Northern Colorado (Elementary Education)
I am currently an Elementary Education Teacher in the Jordan School District. My expertise for teaching and tutoring is math, reading, and writing. I am extremely good at teaching kids a basic foundation for what elementary school requires.
I have had experience in teaching one-on-one tutoring as well as group tutoring in a school setting. I am lively and energetic in all of the lessons that I teach. I find ways to connect to each and every child and to weave their interests and passions into learning.
100% dedicated to seeing results for every child. I use the resources I have available( which is a lot, coming from a school with plenty of resources that I can use) to help each child learn what is necessary to help them succeed! This is why I like to meet for a first time with the child and parents to get a feel for what is most needed during our tutoring time. I like parents to tell me what their child is struggling with, or needs more help with, that way our time can be guided by those requests. We will use every minute of tutoring time practicing skills, developing better understandings, or even preparing for a test. Megan prepares before the lesson. She asks if there is something different that I would like her to work on with my child. She is also experienced as i observe, I can see her skills in education.
Megan is such a kind, patient tutor! She has already helped so much by building confidence and teaching in a way that is easier to understand. My daughter loves her! I am excited about the progress she has made already in math and reading comprehension.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor of Arts, Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Multicultural Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. That also includes a Teaching Emphasis: Elementary Education K-6. I am in my fourth year of teaching 4th grade; 3 in Colorado and 1 in Utah. I know Common Core Standards and implement them daily, particularly in math, reading, and writing. I can provide more information and/or professional and personal references if need be.
I have coached at the middle school level, both on school teams and recreational teams. My first experience coaching younger ages was when I was still in high school. Many years after that, it all led me to coaching at the K-8 school that I was also a teacher at in Colorado. I can provide professional and personal references if need be.
I have taught many children how to become better writers with narrative writing, creative writing, opinion writing, and informational writing. They show huge growth throughout the time I spend with them.
