My name is Katharine, and I specialize in tutoring English. I've tutored independently and on this site for over 10 years, and generally work with children, grades 1-12. I specialize in English, and teach vocabulary, spelling and reading fundamentals. For my first session with each pupil, I do an assessment of their reading skills to determine their ability level, and then I customize my tutoring methods and materials to suit their individual needs. Next, I develop strategies for learning that coincide with the pupil's abilities and interests, to motivate students who normally don't like to read. I also provide incentives for good progress each week, and let the parent choose what type of reward is appropriate for their child.

My college major is Psychology, and I take the time to utilize my knowledge of thoughts and behavior to enhance the tutoring process. I draw upon information I learned from classes such as psychology of adolescence, and personality theories to hone in on personality traits in my pupils that may require modification to improve the study habits and overall progress of each student.

I enjoy my job, and I especially love working with children, who seem to love me back. I'm very flexible, and will work with you to find a time that is most convenient for you. I will come to your home if you prefer. I have excellent English proficiency skills. I scored 115% on vocabulary and 99% on reading on my college entrance exam at Dixie State College.
