About Ryan

Bio

I'm a lifetime student who loves learning and loves seeing the spark in a student's eyes when they really "get it." I've worked in a college math lab (1 year) and have done substitute teaching (1 year). I've worked with student athletes, special needs students, students who chronically struggle, and students who just need a few more "aha" moments in order to move on to their next challenge. I've also helped my own son excel in demanding honors high school classes such as calculus and physics....

I've worked with student athletes, special needs students, students who chronically struggle, and students who just need a few more "aha" moments in order to move on to their next challenge. I've also helped my own son excel in demanding honors high school classes such as calculus and physics. I relate well with and can help students of any age with a broad variety of challenging subjects.

I've been a tremendously successful student throughout my life, with near straight-A performance from elementary school through all my college years. I have an undergraduate Civil Engineering degree (with a minor in English), went on to additional post-graduate studies in engineering, and also have an MBA. I've scored very well on college entrance exams (PSAT, SAT, ACT and GRE). In addition, I've had some tremendously valuable real-life experience in the business world that I use to help students understand how to relate what they learn theoretically to things they might be doing practically. I have particular strengths in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and math), but I also minored in English and I've loved everything about my various educational experiences.

My tutoring approach involves a great combination of patience, humor, personableness, encouragement, and advice. Repetition is important to an extent but I don't believe in overdoing it - boredom doesn't serve any useful purpose.

Patience

Ryan is interested in understanding what my sons needs and struggles are, and wants to know what academic goals are. When kids are not interested in learning or what ever reason, they can be difficult students. I appreciate Ryans willingness to stick with the process and work with ny son to increase his confidence.

Ryan has been very flexible and he did a great job helping for my advanced calculus class, even though it is not something he has tutored or helped with for a long time. It was great to have someone patient and helpful to talk through the concepts and help find the answers to the problems.
