About Elizabeth

Hello, my hope for all my potential students is to provide the foundations of success and the tools to thrive in whatever aspect of education they might be pursuing. Seeing a student succeed and attain the confidence they need to do well is a philosophy that I maintain as an educator and I hope to bring that to you!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in Spanish from California Polytechnic State University and a Master's degree in Education specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Seattle University. I have much experience in tutoring as well as one-on-one teaching and working with speakers of other languages. I would love to bring my dedication and passion for teaching to help you!

Alongside my Master's, I also have a 60 hour TESOL/TEFL certification in Teaching ESL from Oxford Seminars. I also have five years' teaching experience abroad and in the United States. I am currently a Program Coordinator for a non-profit specializing in providing ESL classes in the community.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a year of experience at an area school working with one-on-one with students who have ADD/ADHD in all areas but specifically in language arts.

Autism

I have worked with many students with Autism at a private one on one school and understand the trials that they face in the learning environment. I have experience designing lessons for students with Autism and helping them thrive in the classroom.

ESL/ESOL

I have taken the appropriate courses and received my certificate to teach TESL/TEFL/TEOFL courses. I received my certificate through Oxford Seminars in February of 2011 and completed a teaching practical and completed all the appropriate assignments, including course design and classroom management.

Reading

I have experience working with all ages at a private school in language arts, specifically reading comprehension. I have many tools to assist in this process and am understanding of the difficulties of this challenge. Tutor students for the SAT, ACT as well as the TOEFL where reading comprehension is a large section.
