Your success, is my success!

I provide tutoring in Statistics and data analysis using SPSS, and Excel; including early exam preparation and practice. I aim to ensure each student progresses in their chosen subject and achieves results which reflect the best of their ability. I have an excellent track record for achieving learning goals, which is a reflection of the students' efforts and my own.

Currently, I serve as a Corporate Trainer at Salt Lake Community College: Workforce Training and Continuing Education. I am a patient and methodical instructor who begins each lesson by assessing the understanding, and capabilities of the learner. This process enables me to develop a student-specific training plan. I believe in teaching and strengthening the fundamental concepts of a subject.

My teaching and leadership experience has helped students, educational institutions and corporations achieve their learning and performance goals. I bring practical, real-world experience to share with you. Please feel free to take advantage of it.

Underlying my educational philosophy is the belief that it is more important to teach learners how to think, rather than what to think. Educators should not treat learners simply as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge. Rather, learners should be engaged with alternative viewpoints that challenge existing assumptions and encourage critical thinking.

My goals are to help learners think independently and to train them to articulate their ideas clearly. I find it exciting when learners are able to move beyond parroting what the textbook or professor tells them and are able to draw their own conclusions from the material.

Excellent Tutor

Even though our communication was limited to a phone conversation and not a face-to-face learning experience, Alvin H. was able to explain statistical analysis in a manner that concepts that I had never understood previously become clear. I could not give Alvin H. a higher recommendation!

His love for the subject is shown by the ability to teach and his patience with his students

Alvin started tutoring me from the third week of my classes, and my stress has decreased while my knowledge increased. I don't know what I would do without him. I am truly accomplishing my goals with my studies.

Great assistance for business help

Not only did Alvin get our immediate issue resolved quickly, he considered our business needs as a whole in addressing the problem. As a business owner having a person who is business savvy and approaches our needs with our business in mind is more than what was expected. A great experience.

Extremely helpful and patient!

I am currently taking two classes that involve the SPSS program. I had zero idea what to do when it came to this program and had a large assignment to do so I was freaking out! I messaged Al and first of all, he replied within less than 30 minutes. Al went above a beyond to help me with my assignment. He sent me emails about SPSS to help me before our tutoring session, looked at my assignment on his own so he got a better understanding of how to help me, and even spent extra time after our tutoring session to help me finish my assignment over the phone! Al was very patient with me as I had a hard time understanding at first, but after his clear explanations of the concepts, I felt so much better about my assignments and working with SPSS. He is funny, personable, and definitely knows what he is doing. I will 100% be calling Al when I need help again!

SPSS HELP!

Wow! This was my first experience getting a tutor from WyzAnt. I'm so glad they set me up with Alvin! Going into this I was so nervous, sad, frustrated, angry, and felt not so smart. Before the session, I called Alvin to give him a run down of what I needed help with. For the session, he was on time and extremely helpful! He explained how to use SPSS and how to run the analysis! I was only scheduled for 1 hour but he was flexible enough to continue tutoring me for another hour. I am truly thankful for him teaching how to use SPSS. He is also sending me resources for after our session. Alvin was great and FUNNY! I appreciated the humor! Before Alvin, I had no idea what I was doing. I was lost as a goose! But now I am comfortable and confident I can use SPSS! Honestly, if he can help me... He can really help you!

Very nice and knowledgeable person.

I am an international student who needed help with SPSS and the way Alvin explained and helped me with my project was excellent. I just wish I got in contact with him years ago, I would have saved so much time and energy.

Great Session

Alvin helped refresh me on math courses that I have forgotten over the years. With up coming test and my girls in school, his steps help me and will help me teach them.

Best Tutor!

Alvin helped me understand the topic we are learning in Algebra 2 and he explained to me in the best way that I learned the concept 100%. Really recommend Alvin and looking forward for future lessons with him!

A++++++

I was truly panicking and he took time before his dinner plans to help me. He even spent extra time before our session by sending me a BUNCH of useful information That I can use on my own. I will absolutely go to him again and recommend him to my friends (:
