Previously certified Level IV in mathematics for the State of Utah (prior to retirement). I taught mathematics courses from first year algebra through first semester college calculus and statistics, including college algebra and trigonometry, with proven success in preparing students for AP Calculus and AP Statistics exams, for 30 years at Park City High School, Park City, UT. In addition, I was a concurrent enrollment instructor for MA1010 (Algebra 2), MA1050 (College Algebra) and MA1060 (Trigonometry) through both UVU (Utah Valley University) and SLCC (Salt Lake Community College).

My philosophy is that, given time and a patient/understanding instructor, anyone can learn mathematics. My method is "learn by doing", as one would coach an athlete, through instruction and practice. Having been a slow learner myself, I can appreciate how students struggle with mathematics; so I try to provide more than one approach to solving a problem with the intention of helping both aural and visual learners. My strengths are Geometry (I'm a visual learner) and Algebra (I think logically), but can help in most areas of mathematics by taking a look at the textbook a student is currently using.

GRE

GRE

The college exam for those interested in applying to a Masters or Doctoral degree program consists of three parts: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing. Verbal reasoning tests the ability to analyze and evaluate written material, as well as synthesize information obtained from it. Quantitative reasoning tests the ability to solve problems, focusing on the basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis. Analytical writing tests critical thinking and analytical writing skills through the ability to articulate and support complex ideas clearly and effectively.

Great Tutor!!

I can't thank Maggie enough! She brought my GRE quantitative score up 12 points, helping me achieve the score I needed for grad school. She is extremely patient, quick with her correspondence and was great helping me get a better grasp of the quantitative section. I highly recommend her and would definitely send friends and family to her! Thanks so much Maggie!!

Very Helpful and Inquisitive

Although I was only able to meet with Margaret once, she was very helpful and inquisitive to know where I stood with the subject of Algebra. Her knowledge has helped me greatly.

Best tutor ever!

Maggie was awesome! First she quickly responded to my request and was able to see us the very next day. My daughter couldn't stop singing her praises the whole drive home. She was patient and clearly explained the concepts until my daughter could grasp it. Thank you!

Awesome!

Maggie is so patient, punctual and above all a good teacher. Her explanations for abstract concepts are so easy to follow. I was a mess to start, and I came out of my tutor sessions with a whole new understanding of the math questions expected on the GRE. I received a high enough score to qualify for the program of my choosing, as well as certain PhD programs in my field. So thankful for Maggie!

Invaluable

Maggie was very professional. She was also very knowledgeable about not only her subject matter, which is math, but was more importantly, from a students perspective she was knowledgeable on how to teach it in such away that it could be understood and remembered. For example, All the component parts of a math problem were deconstructed, reviewed, practiced and then reconstructed. My son and Maggie went through this process three times to help with memory retention and learning. Then once he had thoroughly understood all the component parts, they reconstructed the problems top down.

Great Tutor

Margaret is very patient and explains the concepts very well. Thanks to the tutor sessions, my daughter has raised her grade in math and understands the concepts much better. Margaret is easy to schedule lessons with and is very accommodating. She is a great teacher!

Great tutor, she helps me stay on track and I am the MOM!

Margaret has been a great tutor and a great sport. Our schedule is not consistent. I travel regularly and at times I have failed to confirm dates and times in a timely manner, (I didn't see that my text didn't go through, etc.). Margaret has been understanding and patient with me. In spite of weather challenges and communication challenges (from us not her!) she has remained congenial and constant! My son is showing improvement and more confidence in his class. He is less angry and frustrated when approaching his homework in general. I will attribute that change to Margaret. I feel that over time he will continue to benefit from Margaret's assistance. I am really pleased with Margaret and would highly recommend her as a tutor.
