I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees from BYU in Zoology, with an emphasis in physiology. While a graduate student I taught Histology, Physiology, and Anatomy labs. Since that time I have accumulated 25+ years experience teaching at various schools as we lived in several places in the West: Mohave Community College (Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology labs; Microbiology); Western Wyoming College (General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology); BYU-SL (Physiology, Pathophysiology, Human Biology); LDS Business College (Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, Medical Terminology); Salt Lake Community College (General Biology).
I get a great deal of satisfaction from helping students better understand life processes. It is particularly gratifying when I see students not only improving their grades but also their lives because of their increased understanding.
In my spare time I enjoy reading (I am a self-professed bookworm), knitting, and scrapbooking. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees from BYU in Zoology, with an emphasis in physiology. While a graduate student I taught Histology, Physiology, and Anatomy labs.… Read more
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math has been a favorite subject of mine since Jr. High. I took several algebra classes in high school and college (through College Algebra) in addition to geometry (through Analytical Geometry) and Trigonometry (through College Trig.) I have always enjoyed the challenge of solving math problems and relating math to "real" life. I have been able to tutor my own children through their high school math and have helped other students to understand math as well.
I taught Human Anatomy labs as a graduate student at BYU and have taught Anatomy and Physiology classes at several colleges since that time. I have also taught Medical Terminology for several semesters.
I have had a lifelong interest in Biology. I took all the Biology classes I could in High School. Went on to major in Zoology (a biological science) at BYU where I earned BS and MS degrees. I have since taught General Biology classes at several different colleges.
I took a summer biology course in high school which was similar to a college level course. In this course we focused on plant classification and ecology of the Wasatch Front. The teachers were so good that I remember many of the plant names to this day. I took several Botany classes in college (for two years I was minoring in Botany) including general Botany and Plant Classification. I also took Cell Biology which included a lot of plant anatomy and physiology.
I have BS and MS degrees from BYU and have taught college classes for 25 years.
I took a general genetics course while at BYU in which I received the highest grade in the class. I also took a Human Genetics course. I have taught basic genetics as part of General Biology classes and Human Biology.
I took two Microbiology courses at BYU as part of my degree in Zoology. I also taught a general Microbiology course (for Nurses) at Mohave Community College in Kingman, Arizona. I have also included some instruction about Microbiology in general biology classes and Pathophysiology (which I have taught for 19 years at BYU-SL).
Physiology is my first love as a subject matter. I have always been interested in the medical field. I majored in Zoology at BYU with an emphasis in Physiology and earned two degrees (BS and MS.) I have taught Human Physiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Medical Terminology for a total of about 25 years.
I have been playing the piano for over 50 years. I took lessons for 6 years starting as a child on continuing through teenage years. I have played for personal enjoyment ever since and have had church callings playing piano and organ for many years. I have also had some experience in teaching piano. Playing the piano gives me great satisfaction and is a great stress reliever. I took many music courses through junior high and high school and have been singing in choirs ever since, so I know a lot about music.
I have always done very well in math classes I have taken since elementary school (usually getting A's.) I have taken the following courses in high school and college: algebra through college algebra, trigonometry through college trig, plane and solid, geometry and analytical geometry. I was able to tutor all 5 of my children through their high school math courses. I enjoy solving problems and helping others to solve them.
