Snow College (Social Work)
English has always been my best subject. I have been an avid reader throughout my entire life. As I read more and more, I built my vocabulary and memorized the spelling of each word. I have tutored in English and reading before at an elementary school near where I went to college. I loved every second of the one-on-one time I spent with the students. It was challenging at times to teach them, but as soon as I figured out their style of learning, we progressed much faster. I was also on the Speech and Debate team, so I am also willing to help with any public speaking needs the student may have. I am comfortable teaching any level of English (including helping with AP essays or literature), and also tutoring any subject of elementary education.
I have played violin for almost ten years now. I learned through the Suzuki method, but am comfortable teaching/tutoring whatever the student wants help to learn. I taught violin for three years while in high school. I graduated from the Suzuki method after eight years of playing (usually a feat accomplished after about 10-12 years of playing). I am anxious to be able to be involved in violin and teaching again! I am also very willing to tutor students in solo, chamber, and orchestral pieces. English has always been my best subject. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I competed on the Speech and Debate team in high school, winning several awards. I was first in my region in my event and in the top ten in state. I was also a captain, so I learned to teach and tutor students in the events and on improving their public speaking abilities.
