I decided to become a teacher as a second career and I taught high school social studies for five years. I loved it. I found that I had a natural talent for teaching. I enjoyed using creative methods of instruction such as videos, movie clips, games and reenactments to enhance the learning process. My main objective with every lesson plan was to make the subject matter relevant to the student. If my students couldn't see how historical events effected their lives then I knew I would never hold their attention long enough to grasp the concept being taught. I was very successful. I even worked with at-risk students in an after school program sponsored by the high school where I taught. Later, when I was a tutor, I used those same techniques to help elementary students with math skills and middle school students with their core curriculum studies.
I know what it's like when you, as the student, are tying to grasp what is being taught and coming up blank. How frustrated you feel when it seems everyone else understands what is being presented and you don't. I know the importance of feeling successful at school. I am dedicated to helping every student be a success. I enjoy mentoring students and seeing them progress, both in and out of the classroom. I take pleasure in working one to one with a student to build a relationship of trust. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a student understand what he or she is studying. I am confident that I can work with you or your child to achieve your desired level of success. I have a Bachelor's degree from USU with a major in history. I taught world studies for 5 years at the high school level. The very first lesson I teach my students is how a biblical event that took place roughly 4000 years ago led to the 9/11. Namely, that Abraham's birthright went to Isaac and not Ishmael. I also study the Old and New Testaments for a year each, every 4 years through my church. As well as personal time that I spend reading and studying the Old and New Testaments.
I have a Bachelors from Utah State University with a major in history and minor in political science. I taught 5 years at the high school level and tutor one year at middle school level and one year at the elementary school level. I assisted teachers of grades 1-4 with classroom instruction of the basic curriculum courses, with an emphasis in math.
My minor at USU was in Political Science. I had enough credits to make it a second major, but chose not to. I taught high school social studies for 5 years.
I was in debate in high school. I taught high school social studies for 5 years. I have taught various Sunday school classes in my church as well as giving talks to the congregation since my teens.
I taught sociology for 2 years in high school and have completed 9 credits of sociology at the University of Utah, which is enough for a sociology endorsement from the State Office of Education.
