As a Ph.D in mechanical engineering, I worked at Argonne National Laboratory where I constantly used my skills as an engineer, scientist, mathematician and programmer. After working on many successful innovative research projects, I managed a group of 25 engineers/scientist, mostly with Ph.D's. My accomplishments resulted in being listed in "Who's Who in Technology Today", listed in "American Men and Women in Science", and listed in "International Who's Who in Engineering". I attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a full academic scholarship and was a varsity football player that achieved the honor of being selected to All New England division III team. I went on to attend the University of Connecticut on a fellowship. During my career, I did ground breaking development work in finite element analysis, systems analysis and achieved national recognition as an expert in the field of magnetohydrodyanmics (where I also earned in 6 patents). I have over 100 publications. I also started my own business in consulting on computer programming and applied my engineering analysis skills to financial entities. I am now retired from engineering, but during retirement I worked as Math Adjunct Professor, at Dixie State University for two years (at the request of the Universities president). Before becoming a math and science teacher at a residential treatment facility for troubled teenage boys, I was a math tutor and I also tutored math test taking skills. I am extremely well versed in the art of test taking, usually excelling in the tests that I have taken, including getting a perfect math score on my GRE quantitative. Subsequently, I developed a unique method of helping students score better on multiple choice math tests, including the ACT, SAT and GRE, by enhancing student's guessing skills for problems that they could not solve. My student's increased their score from 15% to 35%. I am an excellent problem solver and as a teacher/tutor, I try to teach students more than one way to solve a problem. I've discovered that

Bridge

Almost Gold Life Master (currently 2,483.45 points - 2,500.00 points required). Expert player. First place in 2 National Events run by the American Contract Bridge League. The bridge has been a lifelong passion of mine. The bridge is a two-part game; bidding and trick-taking. I can help you with both the play of the cards (declaring and defending) and with your bidding. Most players have more trouble with the bidding. That is because it requires more judgment, and it also takes more practice. I am available to help you through this process.
Chess,

Chess

Was once the 8th top-rated correspondence chess player in the US with a rating of 2345. Competed in the US international correspondence team. Was a past president of the Chicago Industrial Chess League. I have over ten trophies from tournaments that I have won. I am a life member of the US Chess Federation. I have been playing chess since I was 4. BTW, I once played Bobby Fischer. I also played against 6 other grandmasters (Arthur Bisguier, Pal Benko, Larry Christiansen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Mikhail Tal). Chess is a game employing strategy and tactics. You need to know both. Also, most experts divide chess into 3 parts. The opening, the middle game, and the end game. There are many books on openings and that is because there are so many choices and you need to know this so you aren't losing after 10 moves.  Openings are classified as either closed or open games and most openings start with white moving White's king's pawn to square "e4" or White's queen's pawn to "d4." The former lead openings are known as Ruy Lopez, Giuoco Piano, Sicilian Defense, French Defense, Alekhin's Defense,  Caro-Kann, Max Lange Attack, etc. While the latter leads to openings known as Queen's Gambit, King's Indian, Benoni Defense, Budapest Gambit, Benko Gambit, Nimzowitsch Defense, etc. I think this part of the game is the hardest to learn because of the numerous variations and transpositions. The middle game is a struggle between tactics in strategy, where strategically you trying to get to a winning end game, while tactically you are trying to gain an advantage by winning material or beheading the king. I like to start by teaching the end game first. It is easier to learn what constitutes a winning end game position and so you can learn how to play towards these positions and also learn how to defend to avoid these positions. Without learning this it is very hard to play strategically.  I am also a high school math and science teacher and a retired Ph.D. Mechanical Engineer. Football

Football

I played football for 7 years (3 in high school and 4 in college, and was on the starting team for 6 of those years (except freshman year in college). I started on both offense and defense and only came out of the game for punting and kick-off plays (except I was the back-up kick-off kicker). When playing in high school, my team won NYC championship and I was highlighted in the newspaper. I received honorable mention as an all-star college player for the New England region. Lastly, I am an excellent analyst of games, as well as a good prognosticator..

Very Good Math Tutor

Greg is a meticulous and careful Mathematics tutor. My 17 year old daughter has always had difficulty with basic Math concepts and this has troubled her throughout her school career. Greg has been working patiently through the curriculum with her and is patiently able to help her to understand the work. He teaches her different ways of doing things so that she can choose the way that works for her and I think she likes that.
