Hi. I’m Jacob and I’m currently a student at Brigham Young University. I’m a senior studying mechanical engineering expecting to graduate in April of 2023. I am a firm believer that anyone can be taught anything, that they only require the right type of teaching. Tutoring provides the opportunity to figure out how each student learns and tailor the learning environment to their needs. I want to give my students the type of instruction that will help them to learn on their own and develop healthy learning habits. My goal for each student is that they can enjoy learning. Often times, classes and assignments can suck all of the happiness out of learning. As students, we get frustrated when the work doesn’t come as easily as we hope it would and we think we just can’t figure it out. Once a student learns how to master their own mind, classes become less frustrating and students become more confident. I want all of my students to feel that way about the subjects I teach them.

As a Spanish teacher, I lived abroad in Viña del Mar, Chile where I learned to be fluent in Spanish. I was in charge of teaching other non-native speakers conversation Spanish. Additionally, I took the Spanish challenge exam upon returning to the U.S. and received an A+ as well as 16 Spanish credits. For the past 3 years I have served as translator for a local agricultural supply company in a heavily Latino part of town. I also have lots of experience in math. I am currently taking Calculus II, having mastered Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus I. I use math on a daily basis in my major of mechanical engineering and I am well acquainted with any type of problem thus far in my education.

I am in the middle of my major in mechanical engineering and I have to use a lot of math. I have taken all of the math classes leading up to Calculus II and I am very familiar with algebra and trigonometry as well. Math can be frustrating and at times its easy to want to give up, but I believe that it can be learned when done carefully and with the right in

Great teacher, very through

Jacob is nothing less than a fantastic tutor. Not only does he take the time to go over the material, but he's very patient and informative. He enjoys what he does, and it shows. He has all the enthusiasm you could ask for and makes working fun. I would recommend him to anyone, and I’ll be working with him again.

Great tutor!

Jacob has been helping my son with Spanish and it’s been a great experience. He is knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. My son wasn’t thrilled with the idea of getting a tutor but has taken a liking to Jacob and really enjoys their sessions. I am so glad I found him! Thank you Jacob!

Patient tutoring

My son has some severe social and general anxiety. He had several anxiety attacks during our first lesson with Jacob. Jacob was a champ. He let us do our thing to get calm again and acted like nothing was out of the ordinary. He was very patient, and for this first meeting that is exactly what we needed. We are excited to have him back and dive into the world of spanish with him.

Really helpful!

Jacob was able to help right away when my daughter needed it. She got off the call and said “I understand math for the first time in months!” He let her tell him how much she knew about a problem then guided her through the rest of it, explaining each step along the way. She’s getting ready to start her next session with him now. So thankful we found Jacob when we did!

Very Knowledgeable, patient, and kind.

Jacob has been a wonderful tutor for my son who attends an international school that is a Spanish immersion school. He works very well with my 11 year old and has even helped us out at the last minute, when we weren’t scheduled. My son has some sensory issues and struggles with ADHD and often has trouble focusing. Despite this, Jacob has done a great job keeping him engaged and learning for a full hour each week. That is not an easy task!
