I'm Kaela! I am currently finishing up my degree in Special Education Mild/Moderate at Brigham Young University. I have taught special needs students for two semesters through practicum settings and will receive my degree this year after I student teach in fall. I love teaching and seek to modify my lessons to provide the appropriate accommodations that will allow my students to truly enjoy the learning process and find success as they engage in it. I firmly believe that all students can find success if appropriate time and effort are put into it, not only on the part of the student, but also on the part of the teacher or tutor.
I have spent most of my time teaching in elementary school settings, but I have also taught at a couple of junior high schools. I have enjoyed each setting and look forward to teaching students of any age!
As I have studied special education in college, I have learned about and implemented various evidence based practices for reading interventions that have targeted the various components of literacy. Through these interventions, I have helped my students increase both their literacy skills as well as their love for reading.
My experiences teaching students with special needs of various ages and disabilities as well as the classes I have taken and the information and resources I have available through these classes have helped me gain a more comprehensive idea of the appropriate accommodations, instructional methods, and activities that could be beneficial for each student in a variety of subjects. However, knowing that each student is unique and different, any advice, ideas, or suggestions from parents and/or students will be greatly welcomed! That being said, I also understand the confidentiality surrounding students and their IEPs and will respect that confidentiality with fidelity.
As a tutor, I am excited to get to know new students and help them as much as possible while respecting them and their families. In doing so, I strive to make the learning experience as pleasant
