My name is Spencer. I am a Applied Physics major attending Brigham Young University. To fulfill my major requirements, I have taken a lot of classes involving math and Physics and thus have plenty of experience in these areas. My love for math and Physics is only surpassed by my love to tutor in math and Physics. I find it very fulfilling to see tutees grasp difficult concepts and stretch their minds in ways they've never done before.
As a tutor, my goal is to ensure that people no longer need my help. In other words, I am here to help others learn to learn. I realize that subjects such as math and chemistry don't come as easily to some as it does to others because learning styles vary from person to person. This is OK and normal. My job is to simply build upon the talents and learning abilities the tutees already have.
As a member of the tutoring program at BYU, my experience has mainly consisted of tutoring my peers, but I also have experience tutoring people of various ages both old and young. I look forward to expanding my tutoring experience. I have taken tutoring classes and will soon be a nationally certified tutor, something that will only strengthen my future tutor/tutee relationships.
I am comfortable tutoring Pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, pre-calculus, and calculus, as well as standard college chemistry. If you think I can help you please send me a message through Wyzant. Spencer is giving homework and study support for both AP Calc and Chem to our Junior son. Early in our tutoring journey, they worked together to determine priority study elements for each session. Besides the work at hand, Spencer perceptively looks ahead to introduce coming topics early. Provides our son with a sense of understanding and confidence even before it is covered in class. Early in the school semester our son already feels ahead of the game. Nice work Spencer.
Spencer has helped me a lot in calculus by helping me prepare for my tests by breaking down all the material and simplifying it to a point where even someone like me could understand it. He also helped me specifically practice the material that I thought was the hardest and showed me clear examples and helped walk me through a couple of problems myself. It's thanks to him that I'm even afloat in the class right now.
Spencer has worked with our son for about a month now and his algebra grades have shown definite improvement. Spencer is patient and has good knowledge of the concepts we needed help with. I would highly recommend Spencer to anyone considering hiring a tutor!!
The tutor review session resulted in a 92% on the BC calculus test the next day. So worth it. She's going from wanting to drop this class to feeling confident and understanding.
He is such a great tutor! He is very patient and he will help you with anything that you need help with! He explains why things are the way they are! He is such a great tutor that I feel better prepared for my math test! I totally recommend him!
Spencer did a great job helping my son review what he had missed on a calculus exam. He was patient and led my son in his discovery of the correct process to find the answers he needed.
I seriously would have failed my math class without Spencer! He was an amazing tutor. He helped me learn using visuals and lots and lots of review. he also helped me with chemistry to score very high on my final.
I learned about unknown sigma, the difference between p value and confidence interval, etc. He totally worked at my pace, and when I was having trouble understanding what he was trying to teach, he changed how he was teaching it and presented it a different way, until he found a way that I could understand it best. So much of what I was having trouble with before makes sense to me now. He's been a big help already in just the 1st lesson.
Spencer is a great tutor. He is very patient and explains everything in a way my son can understand. He is also very prompt to answer texts and emails. He has been able to do emergency sessions when we have needed him.
Spencer is prompt (responded to request in literally 10 min) He tutored my son, a high school junior. As I listened in on the lessons I was impressed with Spencer's ability to teach at my son's level. He was also good and getting my son to explain concepts back to him to be sure that he understood the concepts.
Spencer was a great tutor. We had him help my daughter in preparing for her chemistry final and improve her grade. I was very impressed with his prep work to prepare for the tutoring session. He asked us in advance to send him the concepts she was struggling with and the class syllabus. He took the time to look up everything before he even met with her which made the tutoring session a great success. My daughter had a better understanding of everything after she met with him. I highly recommend him.
Spencer did a great job helping my daughter review for a math final. He put in a lot of extra time and was very patient with her. We will be asking for his help again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have hundreds of hours tutoring math 1010 and math 1050.
