About Marialice

Welcome to an innovative, fun & inviting educational journey ahead--that’s fueled up with years of creative, quality experience. The Destination: Offering you satisfying progress with confidence in your adventures in learning!

I have 18+ years of teaching tutoring, testing and training experience with K-12 in various subjects and settings; as well as Spanish translator and test administrator. I was a preferred sub at an elementary school and a most requested sub for an educational staffing agency. I have experience working with all ages and extensive experience with elementary-aged students.

I have taught art 1-6th grades, exclusively 5th grade, and private tutored. I have 2+ years experience in an elementary school administering school wide assessments such as Dibels; training classroom intervention aides, one-to-one tutoring with students and was awarded employee of the year for 2011/12.
Most recently, I have managed an after school program, and taught a K-reteach skills class in a local school--which keeps my background check on file as well.
Additionally, I’ve tutored for spelling bees, creative innovation, the gifted, medical term memorization, as well as working with adult language learners--ESL and other topics.

I utilize games, visuals, creative alternate ideas to teach goal curriculum, as well as incentive and confidence builders.

The ultimate adventure is to instill the thrill of learning and to appreciate that destination--to develop a lifelong quest and empowerment that a quality education gives.

Thank you ! !!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have 17+ years in my educational career and have worked several years with students with Autism. Applying more specific, consistent and a more visual schedule of responsibilities creates a more predictable and productive learning environment that aides the student in fulfilling and accomplishing more successfully in their daily duties.

Drawing

I have an art degree; the experience of 12+ juried entries in 7 shows in Provo and Springville, including a first place ribbon; as well as freelance experience with clients including Independence Mall in NC, Travel Company, Utah Special Olympics, and individuals. I find that these experiences, my teaching experience in the public school system, and my present position as a 5th grade art instructor, provide a broad foundation which allows me to help develop in students sound drawing skills that communicates through observant artistic eyes.

I delight in the prospects of sharing the joy, skill and creative insights to the fantastical world of drawing. Participating in the arts attributes to improved performance in other areas in life, including academia.

Dyslexia

I have 17+ years in my educational career and have worked several years with students with Dyslexia. Recognizing their specific needs and addressing that by teaching the students specific tips, visual cues and improving organizational skills, which helps the student to more successfully work through their assignments as intended with more clarity in learning what the material is vs the symptoms of dyslexia. This helps create a more predictable and productive learning environment that aides the student in fulfilling and accomplishing more successfully in their daily duties.

Elementary (K-6th)

I presently have 15+ years teaching and tutoring classes, small groups as well as one to one, in the public school system.

I am employed in a local elementary school and administer school wide testing; train the aides that work with the students; and I am the school's 5th grade art teacher.

I have seen success with the students I have worked with. They look forward to my working with them. I teach in a way that sound skills are learned in a fun, confidence-building manner so students develop abilities that build a larger foundation for them to thrive on.

English

English skills help to bring fine literature into life, an appreciation for things beyond the fundamentals as well as open doors of opportunity. It offers refinement, vision, subtle detailing and a clarity to conversations. Improved English skills invite social understanding within and beyond cultures. Analyzing content, voice and seeking the wisdom recorded in history on through modern times and beyond. With the study of English, writing skills often are improved as well. The time invested to the study of English is a pursuit worth enjoying.

Phonics

I create an entertaining tutoring session with games and activities that delight and encourages students to participate in learning the goal concept. Phonics is an important building block to fluency and the beginnings of a life long study in text. Tutor time includes Alphabetic review of sound and letter recognition, consonant vowel consonant practice, basic reading, context recognition and comprehension.

Special Needs

I have 17+ years in my educational career and have spent several years working with students with specialty needs beyond the norm of learning including, dyslexia, Autism, Aspergers ADD/ADHD and other conditions. Understanding and applying the tools to assist with this learning pattern brings more success and accomplishment.
