About Enoch

I am a licensed teacher and a current graduate student in BYU's Education Department. My graduate emphasis is in instructional design and development. My undergraduate work (also at BYU) was in English and Spanish teaching. In many ways, teaching and learning are my life! I especially love meeting with and tutoring students on an individual basis.

As a two-year volunteer religion teacher in California, I got a lot of experience teaching and tutoring in both one-on-one and small- group settings. I have taught dozens of students using both English and Spanish as the primary language of discourse. I am proficient in the following areas:

-English & Writing. I have participated in several speech and essay competitions, and I have often won first place. I have also written dozens of essays and research papers in an academic setting, seldom receiving less than an A grade. I am proficient in planning, drafting, proofreading, and editing papers of this kind. I am happy to provide examples of my work upon request. I am also passionate and proficient in literary analysis and could offer a great deal of help for students struggling in any level of English language, grammar, or composition.

-Spanish. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and I am well acquainted with Spanish grammar. I taught Spanish at the Provo Missionary Training Center for about 2 years, and I can easily help students who would like to learn this beautiful language.

-Study Skills. I love being a student and have developed a lot of effective study habits over the years. While tutoring students in other areas of proficiency, I could easily help them learn some study skills as well.

-Math. My ACT Math score was in the 95th percentile, and I received a 5 on the AP Calculus exam--the highest score possible. I also recently received a 158 on the quantitative reasoning portion of the new GRE. I have tutored several students in Math, particularly geometry and algebra, so I keep my skills fresh.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I scored 36 on the English portion of the ACT. I hold a bachelor's degree in English Teaching from Brigham Young University. I taught 10th-11th grade English, including ACT test prep. I am a current private tutor in multiple subjects.

ACT Math

- I received a 29 on the mathematics portion of the ACT--a score in the 95th percentile and equivalent to a 1940 on the SAT
- I received a 5 on the AP Calculus test.
- I keep my math skills fresh by tutoring students in geometry and algebra

Algebra 1

I received a 29 on the Math portion of the ACT and a 5 on the AP Calculus Test.

I am a private tutor for a home-school family where I provide algebra and geometry homework help.

Algebra 2

I got a 5 on the AP Calculus exam, and a a 158 (70th percentile) in Quantitative Reasoning on the new GRE test. I have also recently tutored students high school aged students in geometry and algebra, so I continue to keep my skills fresh.

Bible Studies

For two years, I served as a volunteer religion teacher in Anaheim, California, where I taught several lessons daily on Biblical subjects, read and discussed the scriptures with students, and occasionally taught Sunday School lessons. I have also completed two courses on the New Testament at BYU--one focused on content and the other on teaching principles of the scriptures to young students.

English

I have a Bachelors Degree in English Teaching from Brigham Young University, 2014.

I am an award-winning speech and essay writer.

I have both formal and informal experience as a writing coach and grammar instructor.

Prealgebra

AP Calculus Exam- Score of 5

Proofreading

I hold an English Teaching Degree from Brigham Young University. I have proofread, graded, and corrected hundreds of student papers, from the high school to the college level. I have won a number of awards for papers, all of which included an aspect of correct grammar and usage

Public Speaking

As a high school student, I competed in several local and national public speaking competitions, including America's Freedom Festival at Provo Speech Competition (1st place) and the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest (State Champion; National Quarterfinalist)

As an English teacher at American Fork High School, I also coached the school's Mock Trial team.

My experience has given me a good sense of effective speech structure, elocution, posture, and gestures.

Spanish

I was a Spanish Teacher at the Provo Missionary Training Center from 2010 to 2013. In this job I taught the Spanish language to small groups of volunteer religion teachers. I also tutored the volunteers one on one in their language skills.

I was a Spanish teaching minor at Brigham Young University in 2014. I recently graduated with this minor, which qualifies me to teach Spanish to secondary students in the public system. I am also great working with younger students.

Study Skills

As a graduate student at a prominent university in Utah (BYU), I have attended a lot of school and learned some great study skills along the way. I know how to manage my time, how to find and organize resources, how to get help from lots of quarters, and how to maintain a healthy balance to not burn myself out. My study skills enabled me to maintain an 3.99 GPA during my rigorous high school years, including through several AP classes. They also helped me keep a 3.97 GPA through college and get a great score on the GRE test. Furthermore, I have tutored several students not just in content, but in time management, goal setting, and study skills as well.
