Yale University Graduate School (Master's)
Welcome! I'm a Yale grad with a deep love of learning, a passion for teaching, and a great respect for individual differences. Whether you love studying and learning or can't quite claim that level of devotion, you've come to the right place.
I've taught several GRE prep courses, including a math refresher course, at the University of Washington. I've also developed many strategies to help students improve their performance on the SAT and ACT. These tests do require specific math and verbal knowledge, but just as importantly, they also require problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and logic. I focus on both the content and the strategy, using a selection of the best prep books and online material.
As a university-level English composition instructor, I've graded more than 25 papers each week, marking each grammatical, syntactical, and organizational error. I work with students to be able to spot their own errors and to write so as not to be misunderstood.
I've also worked with many ESL speakers--including Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Iranian students--to improve their grammar, reading, and speaking skills. I begin ESL tutoring with a comprehensive placement test designed to produce a detailed gap analysis. This analysis shows exactly which concepts an individual student needs to learn, and I customize my tutoring to meet those precise needs.
My goal is for you to become an independent learner and confident test-taker. Whatever your needs, I'm here to help!

With Jennifer's help once a week for about a month leading up to my test, I was able to improve my score by six points, which really does make a large difference.
Not only did we review the concepts necessary to complete the problems, but also elements of test taking strategy which I would not have known otherwise.
She was very patient, and truly focused on the areas in which I needed the most improvement.
Additionally, I'd spent money on a more expensive, highly regarded, in-person tutor for additional test prep, and he truly didn't even compare. Would highly recommend Jennifer - not even worth searching elsewhere.
Jennifer is the best! She takes the time to make sure that you fully understand the concepts and what the questions are really asking. After each lesson, I was excited to work on my practice problems! I learned skills that I know I will continue to use beyond my test. Her tips and strategies helped me tremendously and I cannot thank her enough.
Jennifer… thank you!! The way you teach and explain concepts are so helpful. You gave me confidence going into my test. I am so glad that I got to work with you. You have truly helped me!
She has been helping me study for the GRE. I have had two, 90 minute lessons with her and she is vey patient and helpful. She does not continue to a different topic unless you have understood the one you are working on. She gives you several sheets of problems to work on your own to practice and if you have any questions she is more than happy to help.
A really good tutor, excellent teaching style, great patience, very pleasant and personable. Thank You Jennifer, I really enjoyed this first session amd I am looking forward to the next one.
GRE prep. Developed plan of attack in an organized and linear fashion with deliverable goals. Matches my learning style. Has good grasp on how to conduct a baseline assessment to develop study plan.
My order of operation was not correct while doing algebra problems. She spotted my problem right away. Enjoyed my session with her. I look forward to our next session.
Jennifer was extremely helpful building my math foundation for the GRE. She found ways for me to relate to the material and answered any questions I had. She was patient as I took note and tried to work out the problems on my own.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I was looking for a Knowledgeable GRE tutor. Jennifer is a wonderful tutor, She is very knowledgeable and helped me with different sections on GRE. She provided lots of great study materials that not just useful for my GRE, but also helped me to improve my knowledge in different areas as well. She is patient, knowledgeable and explains very well. I only wish I had received help from her years ago.
During the lesson, Jennifer helped me understand what I was struggling with, by first, testing my knowledge beforehand, and then going through what I missed. She made sure I understood the material.
Jennifer helped me create a plan to study for the GRE. She knows how to give great resources and how to use valuable time. She was great at helping me what I need to focus on. She gave me very specific things to do and I think meeting with her was a good use of my time. I would definitely recommend her.
Jennifer has been more than patient with me throughout our 2 month tutoring session. She has taught me great tips and strategies that are extremely useful and that I plan on using Friday when I take the GRE. She has given me the confidence that I needed and I would recommend Jennifer to anyone. Thank you so much Jennifer!

I scored in the 99th percentile on ACT English and Reading. What's more, I'm an experienced teacher who can communicate my knowledge effectively to help you strengthen your areas of weakness and achieve a higher score. During my time as a university-level English composition instructor, I worked with many students to improve their written English skills, including grammar, syntax, style, and organization. Leave it to me to show you the ropes and get the high-quality, expert-led practice you need under your belt.
To score well on ACT math, you need a firm grasp of the content covered on the test, quick computational skills, good test pacing, and insight into the ACT's favorite question types, as well as the tricks to use and traps to avoid along the way. I scored in the 99th percentile on ACT Math, and since then, I've worked with many teenagers as a private math tutor. I especially enjoy the puzzle-like challenge of ACT math questions. Leave it to me to show you the ropes and get the high-quality, expert-led practice you need under your belt.
I've worked with many teenagers and adults to understand and apply algebra 1 principles. Some of my students just need a refresher; others need to work on fundamentals. I like to work problems forwards and backwards to make sure the student understands not only how to set up certain types of problems, but how to think them through and how to check their answers.
I've taught several GRE prep courses and GRE math refresher courses at the University of Washington. The GRE does test actual math and verbal knowledge. But, just as importantly, it also tests problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and logic. I focus on both the content and the strategy.
I took 10 years of formal piano lessons including music theory classes in high school and college. I consistently earned top marks in adjudicated festivals and events. From 2010-2015, I owned my own studio, where I taught 20+ piano lessons a week. I've also given several solo recitals; performed in a number of ensembles, including concerto with orchestra; accompanied dozens of vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs; and participated in improvisational music events.

I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT Verbal Reasoning section, which has since been renamed and reformatted many times. But no matter what new challenges the SAT throws your way, I can help you navigate the test with clarity and confidence.
