Hello my name is Nicholas T., my educational background consists of roughly 130 hours of in- class work with students ranging from grades four to seven. During my time at Kent State my major course work included educational psychology, this class gave me invaluable information on how students maturity levels affect learning needs.
Other coursework included, middle school math, history, science, and English. During my time teaching English and comprehension skills I used an assessment to monitor the growth of my students words per minute. There were some students who improved their reading accuracy on an average of 13 words per minute during a semester of instruction.
Tools I used were a plethora of fun and engaging reading activities, including poems, books, and group reads that encouraged students to assist each other in improving their reading skills together. While teaching math to middle school students I developed lesson plans that had progressions that empowered students to take pride and strive to learn at their pace.
In combination with my scholarly pursuits towards classroom education I also taught skiing for the past seven years, the most recent season being at Deer Valley. This promoted growth concerning my professional development as well as cultivating meaningful relationships with guests.
