Chinese is fun!! I spoke fluently in Mandarin for two years when I lived abroad in Taiwan. I have also studied Mandarin at the University level and I continue to use Mandarin daily in my work. I'm extremely passionate about the language and culture, and my love for it has only grown as I have helped others progress toward their Mandarin goals.
The main thing to think about when looking for a Mandarin teacher is what your specific goals are. Having a teacher that understands your needs is key. It is important to find a teacher that is flexible to a student's specific learning style so they can have a fun time while absorbing the maximum amount possible. I also like to understand their learning style. Everyone learns differently, once I understand best how a student learns, we can cater to those specific needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to studying Mandarin in college, I also lived in Taiwan for 2 years, immersed in the language. During this time, I regularly tutored others who were studying Mandarin. My method is based on immersion and repetition. With a tonal language like Mandarin, the most effective way to study is to drill vocabulary, grammar, listening and pronunciation.
