I have been teaching basic math through Intermediate Algebra for 30+ years. I have become acquainted with the new school curriculum and am comfortable teaching Secondary 1, 2, and 3. I have taught Math in Junior High, High School, College and Sylvan Learning Center. I love to help students understand why a problem requires certain steps, yet allow the student to be creative in their approach to math. Math must make sense in order for a student to remember it as a later time. Students must learn the basics in order to understand the Algebra.

At the same time, I have been involved with tutoring math students. I have tutored students in their homes, in my home, at their school, and at Sylvan Learning Center. I clarify concepts through question and answer and observe student work to identify what they know and what they need to learn. I teach using manipulatives, drawings, and charts. I will use my tutoring time to check homework, correct quizzes and tests, and work on "what if" problems, or anything else that is needed. I have puzzles and worksheets that help students work on their multiplication facts, fractions, and decimals. I will make the session fun and fulfilling.

I believe in Team-Based Learning and am willing to tutor either individuals or small groups of three or less. Let me work with your student(s) and bring their math skills up to grade level.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 takes a student from the basics of add, subtract, multiply, and divide with whole numbers, integers, and fractions and includes variables. All of the basic operations are included in solving of equations. This is a fun subject which I would love to help you learn and appreciate.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a course designed to get you ready to take College Algebra. It brings all of the previous algebra together and then expands upon that knowledge. Most of the mistakes that occur in this class come from a poor foundation in basic skills such as fractions and factoring. If you have depended upon the calculator to do the math for you, you may struggle with rationals and radicals that include variables. Then at the end of the course, it becomes very helpful to learn matrices with and without a calculator. If you are planning on taking your college algebra at UVU, be aware that you will not be allowed to use a calculator. Plus the Accuplacer (admission test at UVU) does not allow calculators either. Let me help you fill in the gaps.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Prealgebra can be a struggle for many students if they still do not have their basic facts memorized. The next roadblock is with fractions, then decimals, and then percents. Since math needs a good foundation to build upon, I will find out where the student is struggling and identify the foundation concepts and facts needed to be learned. While we move ahead we will fill in the holes.

Best tutor!

Barbara is always upbeat and willing to help my kids with whatever homework or help they need. She's patient and understands how to help them individually with their concerns. She makes math fun for my younger children, and takes time and is so knowledgeable in helping my teenagers with their needs. I highly recommend Barbara!

Knowledgeable and very patient.

Barbara was able to work through some math with a somewhat resistant child. She engaged my daughter and helped her feel like she understood what she was doing by the end of the lesson. Great tutoring.

I enjoyed working with her!

Barbara taught/helped me understand factoring, and grouping. which is what I struggle and/or lack previously, teaching me shortcuts and making sure that I understand the material presented.
