I am a retired schoolteacher who is knowledgeable, experienced and committed to helping students learn Spanish I or II, ESL or Business subjects. I jump at the opportunity to teach these subjects. I believe I bring life skills such as communication, problem solving, decision making, healthy lifestyle choices, values formation, working relationships, learning a work ethic, and more.
Working in inner-city ghetto schools for 32 of my 35 years I believe we teachers needed to help all of our students in these areas if they were going to succeed in their lives. I want to teach my students to think for themselves. I have my students actively participate in all my activities, in all my lessons. I also want my students to know fun and learning would also take place. Also, to get involved and you will own what you learn and you will retain your knowledge longer.
Learning a language makes you four times smarter. I have my students participate, which stimulates learning and encourages more learning, communication, and all this encourages growth. Values, attitudes, social skills, behavior, and respect for others are formed. The ability to work with other people will predict the quality of life the students will have. I have many tools to draw on to encourage and stimulate them.
I motivate my students with quality learning activities and lesson plans (Fun is a motivating factor). My classroom is safe. There is never any room for ridicule, sarcasm, name-calling or degrading behavior. Everyone participates in their own way. We all find many teaching and learning moments. Mistakes can become beneficial; we get to hear students think, act, decide, and process information from the different situations they have placed themselves in. My students learn they have the freedom to try and are encouraged to do so without the fear or disgrace of failure.
I am Bilingual (Spanish). Knowing there are 26 different Latino dialects; I teach the Universal Spanish Language. There are too many language teachers telling their Latino students, "they speak their language wrong!" NO! IT IS NOT WRONG, IT IS JUST DIFFERENT! In teaching Spanish I also teach culture with real-life experiences. The "KEY" to learning Spanish is self-confidence. To build self-confidence, this language learning CAN BE FUN AND PAINLESS!
I start by teaching or introducing the thousands of words that are similar and makes it easier to remember vocabulary.
Grammar and pronunciation don't have to be perfect to be understood. Expressions help to deliver messages. We constantly practice our new Spanish skills. I encourage students to relax and enjoy their learning experiences as they will learn more Spanish at a faster pace. My lesson plans are presented in a very user-friendly format and they practice speaking as this is fun and promotes more learning. We also learn not only to speak but to spell, conjugate verbs, learn greetings, important pronouns, grammar, comprehension, communication, locations, to tell time, learn days of the week, months of the year, colors, seasons, getting acquainted, and more. I use activities that help me to teach Spanish. These activities are student-oriented, which allows me to observe, make corrections, encourage, have discussion and it puts learning on the student, where it belongs. We just have a lot of fun while we learn.
The teaching and learning climate I create for my students with the outcomes I have observed lead me to believe I was on task with the end results shown by my former students:
They worked harder than they thought they could and had FUN doing so. They took responsibility, showed their respect to everyone, and they took responsibility for their own actions. They learned to read, speak, write, and communicate. They knew my classroom was a safe place to learn. Because we live in the United States, I had my students stand, cover their heart, and Pledge allegiance to the flag. I helped my students to understand if they use their gifts, work hard, follow their hearts, become life-long learners, they can succeed in life. I taught them to have a love for learning and never stop learning. My students, I believe, learned more, liked school better, liked themselves better, and learned more effective social skills
I am always making sure I teach meaningful and useful real-life material. My students' time and my time is valuable.
My lessons include three important factors in business; people, the process, and the product. Our students need to learn those necessary skills to clarify their own value judgements. Ethics, morals and being legal are favorite topics I introduce and include in my subject matter.
I teach students how to listen when in front of their client. Clients want more exposure and I promote real-world activities to get maximum exposure for the client.
I guarantee students will learn starting DAY 1 and we will have FUN doing so.
Students will go home and teach their siblings and parents the same lessons they are going through! I am a retired schoolteacher who is knowledgeable, experienced and committed to helping students learn Spanish I or II, ESL or Business subjects. I jump at the opportunity to teach
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
