About Rachel

I am a student attending USU with a passion for learning and teaching. I am majoring in biology and public health, but I have taken and am currently taking many advanced courses in several disciplines, and love all of them. Since I work with and build on my skills in math, English, science and writing every day, I have a wide knowledge base of many subjects and ideas. I also have extensive experience with peer tutoring and working with younger children.

I enjoy working with students who are willing to actively pursue learning and want to learn about concepts in a creative and personalized way. I commit fully to discovering how the student learns best and capitalizing on their strengths as a learner. I hope to inspire a lifelong passion for learning in my students.

I also understand the importance of standardized testing in determining a student's ability to gain entry to college and access to scholarship opportunities. I have personally been very successful on standardized tests, and have a score of 35 on the ACT. I have an intimate and personal knowledge of how the test works and what skills should be focused on in order to obtain an ideal score.

I have taken the equivalent of Calculus I and II, and am currently taking an advanced statistics course. I have extensive practice with algebra, geometry, and all math concepts below calculus. I also received a score of 33 on the Math portion of the ACT.

Science is my passion, and I have taken AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics C, which are all college-level science classes. I obtained a 36 on the Science portion of the ACT my first try and am very familiar with how the questions are asked. I know what it takes to be successful on this portion of the ACT test.

I have taken AP English Literature and AP English Language, both of which are college-level courses. I have a score of 36 on both the English and the Reading portions of the ACT, as well as a score of 11 (out of 12) on the Writing section. I know how these parts of the test are formatted and I know what skills are necessary to be successful.

I have been playing the clarinet for eight years. I have participated in many competitions and festivals for the clarinet, both as a solo player and as part of an ensemble. My experience with the instrument would be best shared with a younger or beginning student looking to improve their technique, musicality, knowledge, and confidence with the clarinet and with music interpretation and performance in general.

I have studied French for five years, and am very proficient in writing and reading the language. I am also very skilled with pronunciation.

I have a flexible schedule and am willing to negotiate rates based on a personal basis. I am also willing to travel to a location of the client's choosing for tutoring sessions. Contact me with any questions or requests!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
