University of Kansas; Brigham Young University (English, Art History)
I began tutoring at the University of Kansas and particularly enjoy helping each student meet and exceed his or her personal goals. As a high-school student, I was forced to miss a large amount of school for medical reasons, and a tutor assisted me. From my personal experience, I understand the difference a good relationship between a tutor and student can make.
My personal goal is to help each student reach the point where I am no longer needed, where the student has the knowledge and the study skills to continue on his or her own. So much of studying is about figuring out how you learn best, and that translates into greater success in every subject.
I taught as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Kansas in art history; as a Level 1 certified tutor at the University of Kansas in English, French, German, and art history; and at the secondary level in English-teaching practica through Weber State University.
Additionally, I worked as a proofreader, editing assistant, and transcription supervisor. I have bachelor's degrees in English, art history, and history. I also studied zoology extensively, with particular emphasis in human anatomy and physiology.
I am available to tutor at the student's home or at a convenient nearby location (most often a library). I have current background clearances through Weber State University and through WyzAnt.

Andrea has taught me anything and everything that is math related with patience and persistence. She is definitely an asset to anyone who needs a tutor.
Just hearing how excited and happy my son was about his first session with Andrea was worth every penny. She was on time, nice, and most importantly, connected well with our son. We are looking forward to more sessions with Andrea.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
From the age of 4 through 17, I received formal piano lessons year-round. I competed in National Festival and Guild competitions for 12 of those years. As an adult, I have continued to play and study piano and performed as a pianist for two choirs.
