About Amanda

When I was in middle school, I read on a 3rd grade reading level and hated reading and writing more than vegetables. During 9th grade everything changed because of an amazing teacher who showed me how to find fun and humor in reading and writing. I hold to the belief that it takes more to be a good teacher than simply knowing a subject. You need to be able to excite and interest your students. This is what I strive for in every lesson.

I have taught every age from 2 up to 92 over the last 10 years. I started a pre-school program while I worked at a daycare to pay for college. After graduating, I served an LDS mission to Chile. Upon returning I went back to school and obtained my Master's in Education. While finishing school I worked at Guadalupe teaching immigrant and refugee adults how to speak and read English as a second language. I student taught high school at East high, and am currently starting my 4th year as a teacher at West Hills Middle School where I teach 7th grade Language Arts and 8-9 journalism. In short, I have experience with ever age group imaginable.

This summer, during June, I am only available to teach in the evenings as I am teaching 2 different writing camps at BYU. The rest of the summer I will be available throughout the day.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your goals! If you have any questions please email me and I will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
