About Jonathan

I've been a math teacher for 5 years and my students range in nationalities and abilities. I've taught a bit in Spanish but mostly in English and students I've tutored range in age from 3rd grade through university level into Calculus. For me, tutoring is a great way for students to get the one-to-one attention they need and help understand difficult topics. My tutoring approach varies depending on students. If a student is specifically studying for a test, we arrange to review sample questions and review where there are trouble spots. If a student is looking to get ahead or gain clarity on a subject, I will do a new or review lesson for them and then we will do some practice. If we have an ongoing tutoring session, I will assign homework for the next time we meet.

I earned my BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and became an engineer for several years. Later, I changed careers to become a teacher and in the last year attained my teaching certification. My experience is widely varied and I can offer help in many subjects, not just mathematics. I love math simply because it is the language and system behind all scientific understanding of the universe. My favorite subject is Physics and without a solid foundation in Mathematics, would just be an exciting story someone made up. Math opens the door to the study of science and creating your own stories.

I connect well with teenaged students. I've been a math teacher for 5 years and I really enjoy helping students to understand what they need to know.

Contact me if you are looking for a down-to-earth teacher who is reasonable.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Excellent teacher and tutor

Jonathan has a way of explaining the concepts to my daughter in a way that she understands. She says that she learns more easily from him than she does in her class. I definitely recommend him for anyone who needs a physics or math tutor.
