It does not take a "math person" to do well in math. I can make a claim like that because I was never a wiz at math before college. I have learned what it takes to do well, even with the complicated math taken as part of an engineering degree.
As such I like to break things down in as simple a form as possible. I won't kid anyone and say they will instantly learn a subject as I know it takes effort and time. What I can do is help with direction and questions. Particularly for those spots that people seem to get stuck. This happens often in math books as the problems often don't follow the teaching or course material.
I like to help students learn in several ways. One way is going through problems and homework. One problem at a time, but will usually prefer not helping on every problem as I have seen a lack of understanding and poor test results in doing so. Similar problems are seen in walking a student through a problem by telling them how without a real effort by the student. I like to discuss options with the student, or if a student gets stuck give a quick review of concepts in order to lead the student to a solution. Finally as they say practice makes perfect. Well a perfect math test score is achievable but somewhat rare, however practice and study can help a student gain confidence in him or herself. I have seen in my experience that even people that know material need to go into a test with confidence that they WILL do well, and not just hope.
I am available for all math classes up to and including calculus.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
