About Tyson

My tutoring career began unexpectedly when I first tutored a Korean man in English. It seemed to be a temporary job for me, but that would not be the case. Ever since I did that, I have developed a love for teaching of all kinds. I have tutored my friends, family, students, and have even helped some of my own professors with problems outside of their expertise. Tutoring is definitely a calling, and I have discovered it is mine!

I specialize in tutoring Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Piano. I enjoy all of these subjects, and especially love it when a concept that the student may not understand at first finally clicks. I assign homework after every lesson and will provide feedback as to how the student is doing.

I want the relationship between the student (and parents) and myself to be completely clear, so I accept all kinds of feedback. If you have a certain way that you like to learn, please let me know so I can accommodate.

I do have a 12 hour cancellation policy, but if you have extenuating circumstances I may be lenient with it.

I have done Algebra for over 13 years now. I love math, and am able to teach my students on a level that they can understand.

Currently I am studying to receive my Doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry. I have taken many Chemistry, Biology and Physics classes, and have tutored people in all 3 of those subjects. I know my way backwards and forwards across the periodic table, and Newtonian Physics is one of my favorite things!

I have been taking piano lessons since I was 5 and have performed in many different places, including Eastern Europe. I am sure you will love what I have to teach!

Tutoring is my favorite thing to do. I look forward to hearing from you and teaching you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

My ACT Math score was a 34, putting me in the upper percentile for the area. I understand the importance of this test and will make sure that you have the best training possible.

Algebra 1

I have taken math classes up through Calculus and constantly use algebra throughout my day to solve different problems. I have also tutored a few students in the subject.

Algebra 2

I have taken math classes up through Calculus and constantly use algebra throughout my day to solve different problems. I have also tutored a few students in the subject.

Chemistry

I am currently studying for my PhD in Chemistry, and have tutored students in chemistry and taught labs for over 3 years.

Genetics

I took a genetics course and received a B+ in the course. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and hope to teach it in the future.

Grammar

Grammar has always been an important part of my life. After learning another language, I realized all of the intricacies and nuances of the English language and have since then striven to be as correct as possible in my own speech and writing as well. I received a 35 on the English portion of the ACT and a 164 on the Verbal Reasoning portion of the GRE.

GRE

I have taken the GRE and did very well on the exam, receiving a 164 in verbal reasoning and 162 in quantitative analysis. I know how to study for and do well on this very important test.

Hungarian

I lived in Hungary for 2 years, learning the language and the culture. Upon my return I took a course on Hungarian history that was completely in Hungarian and received an A for the course. I also took 4 different tests on Hungarian grammar and writing and received an A on those as well.

MCAT

I took the MCAT in 2013 and received a 33, which puts me in the 90th percentile. I have tutored students in many of the subjects that are on the test.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is my passion. I tutored a lab in Organic chemistry for 2 semesters, and I have taken several classes regarding organic syntheses and methods. I am very familiar with all of the instrumentation and general questions that Organic chemistry courses pose.

Piano

I have played piano for 20 years. I have also taught 5 different students, each for about 6 months. I use Alfred's method and am open to others, although I do not prefer the Suzuki method.

Precalculus

In chemistry, the subject that I am currently studying, math all the way up through calculus is needed. I have taken all of these courses and am proficient in them and have had the opportunity to tutor some of my peers as well. I love math and hope to help you like it a little more too!

SAT Math

I have taken math classes up through calculus and constantly use advanced math in my everyday life. I obtained a 34 on the math section of the ACT and a 162 in the quantitative analysis section on the GRE. I also participated in two state math competitions in high school.
