Westminster College (CIS)
I am no longer tutoring full-time. This restricts my tutoring availability to evenings on weekdays, but I am still meeting with students. Priority will be given to my regulars, but I am still taking new students if I can find a time to schedule that works for us both.
I can help you in over 45 different subjects. As one of the most experienced and most highly rated local tutors, I guarantee satisfaction with my classes. Math and business courses are my specialty; I also tutor programming, physics, piano, and other subjects.
I have experience dealing with all ages and levels; the youngest I have tutored was a six-year-old needing help with elementary math while the oldest was a 54-year old economics student returning to get his MBA. I know how to adapt my tutoring methods to the individual needs of each student to help them learn quickly and thoroughly.
About Me: I graduated from Westminster College in 2013 with a degree in computer information systems and most of one in international business management . I began working for a local company as a driver, and within eight months was a general manager in charge of running the entire company. After doing that for a while, I quit that job to pursue tutoring as a full-time career and have been doing so for over a year now. In 2015, I was rated one of the top 250 tutors in Wyzant's network of over 72,000 tutors. I am now no longer tutoring full-time, having moved on to exciting prospects in the financial technology industry.
Multiple Lesson Discount: I no longer offer discounts for multiple lessons per week or regularly scheduled lessons.
Group Discount: Occasionally, students will ask me to tutor multiple students during the same time period. Common examples of these are two friends in the same class or two siblings. I am willing to do this, and I offer group rates. For each student after the first, the base price of the session increases by $10. This will not affect the cost for travel time, but it will be affected by discounts offered through both Wyzant and myself. DISCLAIMER: The overall effectiveness of a tutor decreases with the number of students, because I have to divert my attention between them. With two students in the same class, this is not usually noticeable; with two different classes or more than two students, there may be a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the tutor. It is to account for this loss of effectiveness that I charge a lower average per student for groups.
Travel Policy: I prefer to meet at a public location such as a library or school campus, for a number of reasons. There are several that I use most often, but am willing to experiment with others if you have other suggestions. In some circumstances, I may be willing to meet with a student at their home.
Cancellation Policy: If you notify me at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled tutoring appointment, there's no trouble at all. If you cancel within a short time of your scheduled time, I will charge you a partial amount for lost opportunities and scheduling inconveniences. If you cancel with between 12-24 hours left to your appointment, I will charge 1/2 the scheduled time, with a minimum of 1/2 hour. If you cancel with between 3-12 hours of your appointment, I will charge 3/4 scheduled time, with a minimum of 1 hour. If you cancel within 3 hours of your appointment, or fail to attend an appointment with no prior notice, a cancellation fee for the entire session will be charged. Signing up for an appointment implies acceptance of this cancellation policy. I am no longer tutoring full-time. I offer special rates for ongoing students. I also offer group rates for some situations. Please see my profile for more information.
Very patient and knowledgeable tutor who always comes prepared. Tutored me in upper level Spanish, Micro and International Economics, as well as Finance and International Finance. Good at getting concepts to stick and easily the best tutor I have used. Keep coming back with new classes because he always knows what he is talking about and what I am learning!
Helped me with my Finance 1010 class, specifically Sustainable Growth Rate, Present and Future Value of Annuities and Perpetuities, and Required Rate of Return. Got a good grade on my final the next day!
Josh really helped me in a time of need! Was willing to meet quickly, and very adaptive to my learning style!
Josh may not be the cheapest, but I've found out that he is worth it--at least in the subject that I'm being helped in (java). I sat for 7 hours with another tutor, and he could not even do the work. I went back to Josh the next day, he was able to correct everything that was done wrong, and help complete the assignment very easily.
Joshua has been tutoring my son and has made a huge difference with his confidence in test taking and overall knowledge. I wish I would have started this long ago. Thank you!
If it doesn't click, he'll change his approach and find a way to make it click. He's very prepared and makes every minute count.
He is an excellent tutor, he knows very well all the math topics, I definitely recommend him for a math tutor.
I could not have finished my computer science class without Joshua's help.
He was very patient through the whole semester and helped me understand more about programming concepts. If he did not know something he was willing to research it and find the solution for the problem. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
Joshua was friendly, positive, punctual, professional, and responsible. He helped me get through an entire college algebra course in 30 days with good results. The best thing about working with Josh was his flexibility with my learning style. I would definitely recommend Joshua.
Joshua was a very patient tutor. He was able to break things down enough that I was able to understand. He is a very positive guy and never makes you feel awkward for not knowing something. Super easy to get a hold of and answers back super fast!
Josh is an incredible tutor! He always comes prepared. He knows his subject really well and has the ability to tutor at a graduate course level. I highly recommend Josh as a tutor.
Fast, helpful, great communicator, very knowledgeable in the subject, great to work with! Will be returning!!! Thanks again for helping me last min and for the great help you were!
Very clean, teach step by step. Best tutor I ever had. He was tutoring me JAVA, and he's great programmer and tutor. He gave me a lot of tips and how to run program.
Excellent tutor, courteous, very smart and talented to teach. He is very concern about you can understanding through life samples to understand the matter, or the questions, or practices. I am so happy about my tutoring classes because I know I am learning. He is just great!
He started out kinda slow but that made me think harder and faster, like got my brain working. Then he would teach a bit quicker to keep me on my toes. He knew all the problems I needed help with. I will use Josh again for tutoring for sure.
Joshua was really helpful, he was able to help me on a project I'm working on for finance. To be honest, I like his method of tutoring. He seems to know finance well, and I'm able to understand what he's teaching. Thanks.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was only 2 classes away from graduating with a degree in international business management at Westminster College before switching majors to take advantage of a scholarship. I have been an entrepreneur and small business owner for 3 years, placing in the top 30 student business plans in Utah for the 2011-2012 competition. I have been tutoring business classes for 3 years as well, including a current MBA level economics class.
I graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Computer Information Systems. In my full-time job, I work as a programmer and web developer. If you have a question that I can't answer off the top of my head, I know where and how to ask the questions and find the answers.
I graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I have two years of experience tutoring both computer programming and computer science. Some topics that I have successfully taught in the past include: boolean algebra, logic gates, algorithms, databases and information retrieval, and (basic) computer security.
I have played the piano for over fifteen years, having started when I was six years old. During the first several years, I was certified through level 5 with the certificate of merit system, but stopped participating in that system when I switched piano teachers. I have played for various functions, including accompanying both solo vocalists and choirs, as well as a band. In addition, I have tutored beginning piano students at Westminster College.
I focus a great deal on technique, and in early learners the ability to read music. I don't focus a lot on ear training or improvisation, nor on the ability to write music, but I make sure that my students can take a piece of music and learn to play it well.
I did exceptionally well on the PSAT, with a score of 223 (out of 240). This score was high enough to make me eligible for competition in the National Merit Scholar competition, in which I was a finalist. I also scored 2370 on the SAT.
Even more important than my raw scores, I am capable of helping others improve their scores. While I cannot guarantee scores exactly like mine, I can help students learn the test-taking techniques that helped me succeed with the PSAT, SAT, and any other multiple choice test.
There are two ways of studying for the PSAT and the SAT. The first is to study the actual material, which involves reviewing geometry, algebra I and II, vocabulary, and grammar. The other method of study is to learn to understand the thinking behind a multiple choice test, which will help you prepare for all multiple choice tests for the rest of your life. If you are interested in hiring me as a tutor for the PSAT or SAT, I can teach either or both methods.
