I offer multi-sensory lessons for reading, spelling, and writing for all ages. I am also available for second language support for those who want to improve their English skills.
Many students face some challenges in their learning. Struggling students need the material presented in a logical and positive way, building on previous learning to mastery.
I have taught Public Montessori, Gifted Education, and Special Education in the past. I enjoy working with students of all ages. I am trained in dyslexia therapy training through an IMSLEC approved training program in Dallas. Member of Academic Language Therapy Association and the International Dyslexia Association.
I am interested in working with individuals who live close to Woodway/Waco.
I can travel to child care facilities and schools if they are able to provide a quiet place to work. I also work in my home. Dyslexia therapy works best with several sessions each week. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Certification in special education. And I have a Master's degree in Educational Psychology. I also have family members with ADHD. I have participated in continued training in ADHD at a conference October 2015.
I attended the University of Texas, and I earned a university certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder and other low incidence disorders in Early Childhood. I completed this certification in Aug. 2014.
I am a dyslexia specialist for a school district. I have been trained in Orton-Gillingham Teaching Approach (45 hours training and observation of my lessons) using the MTA curriculum.
I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association and attended their conference for 3 days in October 2015.I was certified as a National Board Certified Teacher in 2002. Middle Childhood Generalist. I also was an assessor grading other teacher's submissions for elementary math.
Special education certification with 24 graduate hours, active in advocating for people with ADHD, autism specrum disorder,and dyslexia in my community. Completed an additional 12 hours for university certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder and other low incidence disabilities in early childhood 2 years ago at University of Texas Permian Basin. Completed 15 hours of theatre and 18 hours of speech during my bachelors degree.
I have obtained a Texas Certification in Elementary Education. And I have 30 years of experience in Texas Public Schools. I also have a Montessori Certification with 3 Years experience in private schools.
I'm a Montessori trained in multi-sensory math. I have 29 years as an elementary classroom teacher. I have led workshops in math for other teachers and coached teachers as they improved math teaching methods.
I have taught first grade in the past and currently work as a dyslexia specialist. I teach a structured phonics program as part of the multi-sensory approach I use with my dyslexic students. I am also trained to test for dyslexia and other reading difficulties through Educational Service Center Region 12. I often test, then meet with a school team to determine services for children with reading difficulties.
I have earned my Texas Teaching Certification in Special Education. And I have taught special education and worked with many special education students in my regular classrooms.
