About Sarah

I have 6 years of classroom teaching and 10 years of tutoring experience, including more than 2500 hours of private and small-group instruction. I have taught classes from 6th grade to university and tutored from age 11 to adult.

I have an undergraduate degree in English from Amherst College, and a Master's degree in Geosciences from the #1 graduate program in the country. I scored in the 99th percentile in the SAT and GRE, and previously worked for Kaplan and Revolution Prep as a tutor, teacher and essay grader.

My teaching style is encouraging, clear, fun, and flexible. I love figuring out how to customize a lesson in order to best cater to an individual student's needs. I can work with classroom teachers to come up with a plan to help you or your child through the semester. I also love helping students to build confidence that extends far beyond one subject or one test. As a teacher, it is important to me that students make fundamental and lasting progress as a result of our time together. One of my favorite things to do as a teacher is to convert students who are shy about math, into math heroes!

Thank you for checking out my profile. Please message me if I can answer any questions for you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

AFOQT

I have tutored more than a dozen students for the AFOQT, including four who sought pilot slots. All of my students have achieved AFOQT scores high enough to comfortably qualify for their desired career fields. My specialties are arithmetic reasoning, math knowledge, reading comprehension, and verbal analogies--but I can help with all sections, including instrument knowledge and situational judgement.

Praxis

For almost ten years, I have worked as a teacher, tutor, and test-taking specialist. Almost every day, I work with adults trying to master foundational math, reading and writing skills. As such, I can help future teachers master all portions of the Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test – including Praxis Reading, Praxis Mathematics, and Praxis Writing. As a former middle school teacher, I can also help prepare students for several Praxis II exams, including Principles of Learning and Teaching, General Science, Middle School Science, Earth and Space Science, Math, and English and Language Arts.

TEAS

The TEAS test, which is aimed at assessing aptitude for nursing school, consists of four parts: reading, English, math, and science. I am and English major and a former K-12 math and science teacher. I have more than ten years of experience teaching all of the TEAS test components to students from middle school to adult. I have also taken several online TEAS practice tests with average scores in the 95th percentile.
