Hi there! My name is Kim H.! I am a mother of two boys, ages 7 and 9. I am going into my fifth year of teaching as a fifth grade teacher. I taught my first four years in Kansas City. Last summer my husband got transferred to Texas and I spent the year as a Content Mastery teacher and working with kids who had reading troubles. I have now been hired by the same school to be a teacher there this coming year. I love helping kids achieve success in areas they didn’t think they could. Learning is hard and it is okay to struggle but we have to push ourselves to keep trying. My job is to provide you with extra support to achieve success.

What makes me a great math teacher is my bag of tools that I will use to help you understand the math. We may use iPads, draw, act it out, or use math manipulatives as a way to build math understanding. I’ve also got several strategies for doing harder algorithm math.

I LOVE science, and the best way to learn science is by doing science. It is important to learn the vocabulary and basic principles of science and I will give you lots of opportunities to put them into action. For instance, while enjoying a root beer float we will examine the different parts of it and identify the states of matter. Maybe you are studying forces of motion, so let’s build some ramps and observe what happens when we add different types of friction. Whenever someone tells me science is boring or they don’t like it, I tell them it is because they haven’t been taught correctly because science is exciting and fun.

What makes me a good reading teacher is the fact that I struggled with reading myself as a kid. I know the struggles and challenges that you may have and can help you overcome it the same way I did. I have also worked with kids who had dyslexia or other specific learning disorders and have gained techniques that have proven successful in improving reading levels.

You will be amazed at the amount of growth you can have in just a short amount of time. I hope you will reach out and let me help
