University of Texas at Austin (Mathematics)
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Mathematics degree (minored in Business). I teach my students by drawing examples from the practical Corporate business world, which I was a part of for 7 years. I have worked in middle to upper level management, and I draw countless examples in my tutoring sessions from that. I spent 11 years in the United States Navy. I spent 4 years as an enlisted member on submarines, and I spent another 7 years as a Naval Officer on surface warships. I have extensive time management and multi-tasking techniques, which I teach in conjunction with the subject matter I am teaching. It helps my students be better prepared, especially when it comes to test taking.
I was a tutor in college and while in the military. I tutored college students in algebra, pre-calculus and business calculus. I tutored high school students in the following math courses: algebra I & II, geometry and trigonometry. I also tutored high school students in Spanish, English, Physics and SAT preparation.
I am currently working on my teacher certification, and I substitute teach at the local high school. I can teach any grade level.
I enjoy tutoring because I like seeing my students succeed in their education. I take pride in their performances as they improve before my very eyes. My initial focus will be to determine how my student learns best and helping him/her to understand the material being covered. Basically, my approach is summed up with an acronym PDCA (plan, do, check, act). Plan: Come to the tutorial prepared to teach and having a learning game plan for my student. Do: Using examples, demonstrated the application of the learning material. Check: I encourage and challenge the student to show me what they have learned after I cover the material with him/her. Act: Have a thorough follow up to ensure that the student understood the material covered. I usually do this at the beginning of the next tutoring session.
My philosophy about tutoring is that I am only as good as my students. I am there for them. Their performance is a direct reflection of my teaching performance. There is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher. My main focal point is that I want to have a positive influence on my students by ensuring that they understand the material I am teaching. They need to know that they can be successful in any subject. I am very confident in my ability to influence and instruct others. You have to have "ganas" (that is Spanish for "the will or desire") to do better... to have an open mind and an open heart.
I wish to be your tutor. I want to see you do well in your classes. With my guidance and instruction, you will improve. I am very eager to hear from you. Also, I have very flexible hours. I am willing to work weekends, as well. Thank you for your time. Look forward to hearing from you. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Mathematics degree (minored in Business). Jose works with the student to identify areas of strength and area where improvements could be made. He encouraged my daughter to build on her strengths, which has helped her self-confidence, immensely. He is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and punctual. I am a teacher and hold a doctorate in education, so I am quite familiar with what it takes to be a successful teacher-Jose represents what every parent wants in a teacher for their child.
We are very happy with our son grades , Jose is doing a great Job!
We are very thankful with him.
He's very supportive. Thanks again
Jose does a great job teaching and making sure my son understand what he is learning . My son said he is easy to understand. I would recommend Jose to anyone looking for a tutor.
A previous reviewer stated that Jose is a knowledgeable and patient tutor and I have to agree. Jose made my son feel at ease. My son asked a lot of questions and enjoyed his first tutoring session. Jose was very detailed in his explanation which helped a lot. Terence is looking forward to his next tutoring session.
I highly recommend Jose! My son has struggled with geometry all semester and has not passed a test until spending a couple of hours with Jose. The next day he made an 80 on the test! Jose broke the information down so that my son could understand it and apply it in more common sense methods. Jose was patient and encouraging. My son really connected with him and we will continue lessons with Jose going forward. Thank you Jose!!
Ben always feels confident and understands the stuff they are doing in math after He has a lesson with Jose. Jose really cares for the kids!
We are extremely lucky to have found Jose to tutor our son in Geometry. Jose is willing to spend the time to find the gaps in our son's math knowledge and then to make a plan to complete the subject. Jose's main concern has always been my son. He definitely goes the extra mile to make sure he and my son are on the same path. He is continually working with our son and double checking to make sure he is grasping new concepts. We are truly blessed to have him and look forward to many years of math with him.
Mr. Jose was very patient and helped my preteen understand the formula. I could immediately see the confidence displaying in my son face and body language. Thank you Mr. Jose I will definitely be using your assistance on a regular basis to prepare my son for the next level etc...
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned a Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin. I have applied math in real world applications and testing. ACT Math is subject matter that I am well versed in and I have helped many students do well on the ACT Math portion. I not only teach subject matter, I teach test preparation techniques that are proven to be successful.
I earned a Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin. I have tutored over 100 students individually and helped them excel at Algebra 1. I can tutor you in this subject in English or Spanish. When you follow the process, it will lead you to the correct answer. Trust the process.
I earned a Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Algebra 2 will expand your mind, as will I. I have tutored countless students in this subject. It is important that you have a strong foundation to do well, which is having the basic Algebra 1 skill set mastered. I have used Algebra 2 concepts both in the military and in the business world.
I earned a Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin. The key to mastering Elementary Math is patience. In my experience, students need discipline and a strong hard work ethic to excel in elementary math. I have taught both primary and secondary students, which enables me to reach any student willing to learn.
I earned a Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Geometry is the "loner" math. When bright students get to Geometry, some of them struggle because they don't understand proofs. I have extensive experience with teaching students proofs. You have to know the rules (i.e., laws and postulates). I have mostly dealt with high school students in teaching them Geometry. I took several higher level Geometry classes in college, as well.
