About Josh

I am a PhD student in the Political Science Department at Baylor University with a strong background in history and the liberal arts. One of the reasons I chose Baylor's graduate program is its strong pedagogical emphasis. I have given lectures and led discussions for classes on political theory and international relations. I have completed the coursework portion of my graduate program and will transition into the dissertation phase of my graduate work. I am looking for home-schooled students who are interested in semester long courses in government, as well as students from traditional schools who are interested in a tutor or simply improving their reading and writing abilities.

I teach American Government for high school age students. Emphasis will be placed on the intellectual context of the American founding and the development of federalism, relying heavily on original documents such as the federalist papers and Supreme Court cases.

I am also available for tutoring in History, English, and writing. I have a strong background in European history, particularly the reformation and enlightenment. I have a strong grasp of colonial history and the American founding.

As a graduate student, I have devoted considerable time to honing my writing abilities and teaching students to write well. The Elements of Style is my go-to text for improving writing skills. I provide detailed feedback on both the substance and structure of essays and term papers, teaching students to make clear and concise arguments.

If you have further questions regarding my record, please do not hesitate to ask for references.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
