Elementary (K-6th)

I am a licensed teacher and have a Master's degree in Elementary Education from University of Tennessee. I have 10 years of formal classroom teaching experience. I have taught all subjects in first and third grade, in both departmentalized and self-contained classrooms.

Elementary Math

I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 10 years and have experience with a wide range of levels and abilities. I like to include a variety of multi-sensory techniques that begin with concrete and gradually work up to abstract. One of my greatest joys is helping a student make math relevant to them and their life, and seeing the smile on their face when they "get it" for the first time!

Phonics

I am a certified teacher with 11 years of both classroom and one-on-one tutoring experience. I am trained in The Orton-Gillingham method. I am passionate about helping struggling readers gain confidence in themselves and succeed. I love to see little faces light up when they discover that they CAN read! During tutoring, I use a variety of multi-sensory methods and games, and I always strive to make learning personal and individualized to each child. I want my students to feel a connection to the work they are doing so they can see the application to their everyday life.

Flute

I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2007 from the University of Tennessee. Flute is my primary instrument that I studied in college. I have also provided private flute instruction to elementary, middle, and high school students for over ten years.

Music Theory

I am a flute player with a degree in Music Education. I have taught music in a variety of capacities over about 15 years. I love helping students understand music theory to help improve their musical knowledge and performance!

Dyslexia

I have taught reading for 10 years both in the classroom setting and the 1:1 tutoring setting. I have completed comprehensive training in The Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading, which is considered the gold standard in instruction for students with dyslexia. I have taught many students with dyslexia, and I have experience with creating both instruction and accommodations to help them find success.
