I graduated magna cum laude from Ohio State University in 2017 with a Bachelor's of Science in Evolution & Ecology and a Bachelor of Art in Studio Art. When I was a student, I always learned best when I was able to translate ideas from one area to another. I think that the greatest learning occurs when we begin to understand the connections between seemingly unrelated topics. In learning, it is only possible to understand something new by building upon current knowledge. I love being able to help others bridge the gaps between what they know now and what the would like to learn.

Learning is the activity that fuels my life. I love to figure out new things and discover the unknown. I have always enjoyed helping other people learn, too, and in college I found that I have an aptitude for showing my fellow students what is interesting and exciting about typically "dry" classroom material. I like to relate academic concepts to real-world applications. I encourage rigorous critique of coursework (If you don't like a course, why is that? What about it bothers you?) and I find that this often helps students identify why they are struggling with materials.

In addition to the plethora of biology, ecology, and genetics coursework I completed in my undergraduate career, I have also completed three independent science research projects. I am well-versed in traditional course materials as well as experimental design, analysis of scientific journal publications, and information synthesis. I can also teach students how to better present their data statistics and experimental results, both from a content and visual design standpoint. I have also taken several courses on various topics in philosophy, with philosophy of art being my area of strength.

I have been working with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects for the past ten years, in both personal and professional capacities. I have informally taught others various techniques in these programs. I am also experienced with 3D modeling and animation.

My Evolution & Ecology degree allowed a lot of flexibility for elective coursework-- I chose genetics. I have taken fundamental Molecular Genetics, Population Genetics, Evolution, Genes & Development, Cell Biology, and many independent research credits in a Molecular Genetics Lab (and earned an A- or above in all of them). In my undergraduate lab, I learned standard lab techniques such as tissue sampling, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, protein interactions, primer design, DNA sequence analysis, gene silencing/expression principles, and the intricacies of nuclear movement and positioning. I've also presented my thesis research at a regional biology conference.
