University of Texas at Tyler (English)
I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor's in English and a minor in Philosophy. During my time at college I was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors society and the Sigma Kappa Delta Honors Society. It was at UT that I began tutoring in the on-campus Writing Center. I soon realized that I enjoyed the gratifying nature of the work. Helping students to achieve their academic goals through individualized tutoring sessions is, I believe, the most rewarding occupational experience one can have. I have a passion for learning and for sharing knowledge with others, and love the many ways in which tutoring allows me to engage in this.
English and Philosophy are my main area's of expertise and writing-centered tutoring is what I have the most experience in--logging 700+ tutoring hours at the UT Writing Center. I am qualified to work with all grade levels, and can handle even the most difficult coursework. While I am only trained in the subjects of English and Philosophy, I am more than willing to help with any and all writing assignments, no matter subject, length, or deadline. Also, willing to tutor high school students concerning SAT or ACT (English portion and essays only).
My educational and occupational tutoring experience has equipped me with the skills necessary to be an efficient, pragmatic, and knowledgeable tutor. My approach to tutoring is this: 1) evaluate the clients work, 2)assess their skill level, 3)set realistic goals that I then help them to meet. In my experience, this is the simplest and most effective approach that guarantees student success.
I am generally available to meet students from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 P.M. seven days a week. Please contact me to set verify these times and schedule an appointment. My rate is $40 per hour with a one to two hour minimum depending on the distance I have to travel. I look forward to working with you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
