I am a certified elementary school teacher and mother of two young children. I currently homeschool my children, but have worked as a middle school math and science teacher in the past. My best subjects are Science, English and Grammar related, or in the domestic sector (sewing, cooking, etc.), but I am proficient in all of the subjects listed in my profile. I gear each tutoring session to the student and subject, so my exact methods vary. I do believe in finding a method that is suited to each students particular needs, and will try several different methods if necessary. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Botany from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi. I have studied plant classification, structure, and medicinal uses. I occasionally taught my lab classes when the professor was busy with student advisory meetings.
I have been cooking since I was very young. I can make just about anything for which I have a recipe. I took a homemaking class in junior high, but most of my teaching and experience come from my mother, father, and grandmother. I can make complicated and easy dishes, as well as can vegetables, jellies, etc.
Taking shortcuts like using canned biscuits is okay, but I prefer to make everything from scratch. It simply tastes better. In addition, I have a wide variety of tested recipes that I can share.
I am a certified elementary school teacher.
I took public speaking classes in high school and college. Most of my experience speaking to an audience comes from my previous job. I would prepare and present education pieces on insurance companies to CEOs and CFOs of hospitals.
I learned to sew from my mother and grandmother growing up. I make and alter clothing on a regular basis for myself, my kids, and my friends and family. I am also fairly accomplished at knitting and crocheting.
I have taught my niece and several friends to knit, crochet, or sew.
