About Anna

I enjoy tutoring one-on-one and I am enthusiastic about tutoring a wide variety of subjects including government and politics, political science, Chinese, public speaking, English, and writing. I am patient with my students and I have experience tutoring both students of all ages through college, and adults. Whether it is a one-on-one lesson to learn a new language, improve your public speaking and presentation abilities, gain knowledge about government/politics, or a tutoring session to improve your subjects in school, I can help! I enjoy encouraging my students and building up their confidence the most. I succeed when my students succeed.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Saint Louis University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I triple majored in Political Science, Theatre, and International Studies with a double minor in Chinese and Asian Studies, and was also in the University Honors Program. I was born and raised in Texas, where I graduated cum laude from my high school and served as the student body president for 2 years. I also served in the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) as a District Officer and State Committee Chair Representative, and won the Top Ten Service Project Award in the state every year as president. Additionally, I've served in the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) as a National Presenter and helped my high school win their first NASC Gold Council of Excellence Award.

In 2016, I studied more than 5 months in Beijing, China, where I learned Chinese (Mandarin) in an intensive language program, and learned about China, while adapting and learning to live there. In 2017, I went on a 2-week research trip to China to complete my undergraduate capstone project about the Two Child Policy. I am also fluent in Cantonese and grew up speaking it. I would love to share my experiences abroad and I enjoy helping people learn and improve their Chinese.

In English, I passed both the Collegeboard AP English Language and Composition Exam and the AP English Literature and Composition Exam before graduating high school. As a Political Science major, I have had extensive training in formal writing, research writing, and more.

My favorite hobbies include singing, dancing, traveling, and cooking.

I would be grateful for the opportunity to encourage and help you succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

I have studied in Beijing, China for five months in an intensive (Mandarin) Chinese program in addition to three years of formal university-level Chinese language and culture education. I am also fluent in Cantonese (Chinese). My minors in undergraduate studies were Chinese and Asian Studies.

Government & Politics

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Louis University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I also received the Political Science Department's 2017 Lomperis Award for excellence in my studies and for recognition of the characteristics that the award honors. I have also tutored and helped prepare students for College Board's AP Government and Politics Exam.

Additionally, I return every summer to volunteer for the American Legion Auxiliary's Texas Girls State, an annual week-long civic engagement and leadership development program that educates high school senior girls about government.

I believe that government and politics are more important than most people realize. I am passionate about government and politics, and nonpartisan education--and I would love to share my passion for this subject.

Political Science

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Saint Louis University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude, and with a departmental award. I am a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. I also completed a Capstone Research Project through the Political Science Department, where I received university funding to conduct research in China in 2017 before completing my Bachelors.

I am passionate about politics and would love to help others learn about politics and the world. I have special interests in international politics, but I have a broad experience and knowledge in Political Science through my degree and education.

Public Speaking

I have had formal voice and speech training for theatre and public speaking. I have held many leadership and executive positions in high school and college that required me to speak and/or present in front of many, many people, from small groups to large crowds. I also performed theatre and film monologues, and performed in shows, plays and musicals growing up. I have made many speeches at public events and frequently present at workshops, presentations, and organizational/public events. Additionally, my majors in Political Science and Theatre have helped hone my debate and public speaking skills.

Sight Singing

I spent 10 years in public school choirs in the State of Texas, where every student was required to learn and practice sight-reading every week. I also participated in the All-State Choir Auditions in high school, where sight-singing was a portion of the audition. I use solfege and I am more than proficient at reading music and sight-singing.

Voice (Music)

I studied voice in private lessons for about 10 years and have performed in countless shows and musicals. I was also in choir for more than 10 years through college and competed in the Texas All-State Choir process. I studied my first year in college at the Webster Conservatory of Theatre Arts as a BFA Musical Theatre major before transferring for a more academic-based education. Even before studying at Webster, I studied musical theatre in Houston, Texas with various private voice coaches and teachers. I first studied classical music in conjunction with regular choral training and delved into speech-level singing, musical theatre, and popular voice training in high school where I got into several of the top BFA Musical Theatre programs in the country. I also passed the Collegeboard AP Music Theory Exam before graduating high school, and continued taking music theory classes, private voice, and music lessons at Webster before transferring. I have had several years of formal piano training, and spent a few years leading youth group worship and being part of a worship team at my church in Texas. I am more than proficient at sight-singing and reading music. I love music and enjoying sharing that love to others as well.

Seeing real results; influencing increased motivation to learn and receiving commendation from school teacher on observed improvement. The expense is proving early on to be a worthwhile investment in my child's experience.
