Bio

I have been an instructor in American History on the college level since 1995. In these two decades, it still amazes me how much students have not been taught. Through no fault of their own, basic skills have abandoned or discounted by those who have been in charge of their education. However, it is not too late to either undo the damage that has been done or teach what remains untaught.

As a teacher, I give writing assignments every week. Over the years students of mine have frequently asked why I have given so many. They have been under the impression that writing is only something done in an English class. Again, this impression is not their fault. They do not realize that the ability to express themselves in written form is a basic and vital skill that they will need later in life. They also do not realize that writing is something that is learned from doing. The more practice, the better the writer becomes. Through the years, I have seen many of the mistakes that could have been prevented if just a little extra care had been given. I have confidence in myself and my abilities to give this extra care.

I very much look forward to providing this extra care and helping in improving student skill and confidence.

Realizing the importance of reading in relation to empirical skills. If one cannot read, one cannot reason.

In my two decades of teaching I have constantly found myself in the position of both teaching and learning from my students. I learn something new and unique from them every semester. This give and take helps make the experience more engaging for all those involved.

I am not, have not, and will never be the type of teacher that will bore my students to sleep. Keeping stimulated, engaged, and encouraged is something I will always strive to do. Seeing that I'm into whatever subject matter I'm instructing helps my students get into it.
