I have a Master's in Education from Texas A & M University. I am a retired teacher who taught overseas, in Texas and in Arkansas. I am also a trained Reading Therapist. I enjoy working with people with education goals. And, I can add, I've always learned as much from my students as they have learned from me.
I am also a past AmeriCorp member and tutored adults who were working on their GED. I currently help adults improve their reading and writing skills at a local adult facility.

Rate for dyslexic reading is $45/hour and when working with a small group, the rate is $50/hour. This will offset the cost of the materials.
Susan is a great teacher. She is helping Donovan make great progress. He enjoys her and she is very patient and understanding
This was my daughter's 4th or 5th session with Susan and I must say I am thus far impressed with her kindness, patience, and knowledge of teaching and learning. She starts by building up students and slowly makes it more challenging as the students confidence in themselves builds up. I would recommend her for students who are struggling with reading and confidence.
Susan is very patient and encouraging doing the tutoring session, which I love. It helps my daughter build her confidence in her reading.
Worked with my 8 year-old daughter that was struggling with common core math (as was I). She has mild ADD and her father had unexpectedly died very recently, so she had multiple issues that were causing her to have problems with maintaining focus. Has improved almost 2 full grade levels and will be on the A honor roll this year. My daughter loves her time with "Miss Susan" and I am so thankful for the confidence I see in her. We will continue our sessions through the summer to prepare for a smooth transition into 4th grade.
She is very good with my son. After only two weeks we seen some improvement in my sons reading!! I am one extremely happy Mom!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The Texarkana Arkansas School District #7, where I employed as a Special Education Teacher in Texarkana, AR, sent me to the ALTA Dyslexia Training in Little Rock, AR. It was the districts plan to have a trained Reading Therapists in the district to teach dyslexic students. I attended all training sessions and qualified as an Academic Language Therapist. After training was complete I worked for the district in this capacity, also had private clients, and for the past four years I've worked with adults who have trouble reading and comprehending.
