Hello, my name is Lauren. I decided to become a physics major and obtain my physics teaching credentials after exploring multiple sciences in high school and college. After my undergraduate degree, I taught a year of 7th and 8th grade integrated science covering subjects such as biology, ecology, geology, chemistry and physics.

Besides teaching, I also love research. After my year of teaching, I started my physics PhD program researching GaN nanowires. Despite the demands of a PhD degree, I continued to be involved in teaching and developed a program to train graduate students how to teach. While conducting research and attending graduate classes, I also tutored high school, college, and graduate students.

I have studied physics for more than a decade and guided discussion sections at the collegiate level, being one of the most popular teaching assistants. I have also taught others how to teach physics, increasing my ability to help students learn on all levels.

As a physicist, I use math every day and am proficient in algebra, trigonometry, geometry, advanced calculus and differential equations. I understand math on a high level while also knowing how to help beginning students develop essential mathematical tools.

Teaching is my passion. I help students learn how to approach problems and guide them to the correct answer. I use leading questions to help students evaluate their thought processes and catch their misconceptions. My goal is to increase student's ability and confidence so my services are no longer required. Contact me so we can set up a session and learn math and science together!

Algebra 1

As a physicist, algebra is essential with applications ranging from the complex to the simple. Algebra has become second nature to me as I use it every day. I know various tricks for quick solving along with step-by-step solutions.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

As a physicist, algebra is essential with applications ranging from the complex to the simple. Algebra I and II has become second nature to me as I use it every day. I know various tricks for quick solving along with step-by-step solutions.
Geometry,

Geometry

Physics, and particularly material science, uses various mathematical tools for understanding the world. The basics of geometry are essential to any physicist, using angles and shapes to describe various phenomena. As such, I am fluent in the language of geometry.
Physics

Physics

While I have a PhD in physics, I am also trained as a high-school physics teacher. I specialize in the use of leading questions to help students evaluate their thought processes and catch their own misconceptions. I have also led discussion sections at the collegiate level in classical mechanics and electricity and magnetism along with tutoring multiple high school, college, and graduate students in physics.

Very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful tutor

Lauren helped me review my Physics basics, which I haven't studied for 50 years. She was great at organizing the concepts, understanding my thought process, and being patient with clear explanations (that were tailored to what I was thinking at the moment).

Helpful Algebra Tutor

Lauren was very patient and helpful with my 7th grader's Algebra I homework. At the end of the lesson, she made sure he understood the concepts they reviewed by having him complete additional sample problems. I appreciate how thorough she was at confirming his understanding of the subject matter.
