Baylor University (Chemistry and Math)
I am a proven successful teacher with 17 years teaching Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science - mainly all levels of Chemistry including AP. These classes include sophomores, juniors and seniors. I taught 13 years in the public sector and have spent the last four years at a well-known and respected private school.
I believe many students struggle because they have a "hole" in their education - they have missed a key process or knowledge previously that the area they are struggling with relies on. I am a master at diagnosing these areas and at filling them in so the student is able to understand well and continue on successfully.
I attended Baylor University to study Chemistry. I graduated in 1999 with a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics and a minor in education. In the summer, I lead Environmental Science Field Studies excursions to the Gold Country of Colorado where we study mining and the environmental effects of mining over the years as well as the current issues and remediation methods.
I have the ability to perform labs with students so that they are able to learn lab skills as well as to see the topics being learned first-hand as well as learn how to apply the scientific method. Having had a few tutors over the years, David came in with encouragement and a "You can do this!"-attitude. Just what we need. We will appreciate being able to use him when we need him.
David was patient and helped me with chemistry. He simplified complex concepts and made it easier for me to understand. I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
Easy to learn from. Our son found it easy to communicate with David! He was great and we will call him again!
I give David a list of topics from the weeks assignments that I need extra instruction to prepare me for exams. He covers the material and supplies supplemental information along with worksheets so I can workout the problems and I will be ready for the exam. David also has a way of teaching the materials using analogies that the student can more easily relate to so the matter is more understandable. Great tutor!
David tutor my son in Chemistry and Geometry and even though my son had been absent for almost a week and was behind with the amount of time that
David spent with him, my son finished his homework on his own and understood very well what David taught him. I recommend David very highly.
David taught chemistry. He made my son feel comfortable with asking questions. He was very encouraging. My son was able to understand certain topics during this tutoring session that he couldn't during class time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
