My professional goals are anchored on a commitment to excellence and focused on positive sustainable results. I believe that all students should be well grounded in the fundamentals and practical aspects of their courses. I believe that all students can learn and I am willing to do whatever it takes to make every student successful.
To this end, I seek to create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking and facilitates the acquisition of life-long learning skills. What provides me the greatest pleasure in teaching is being able to reach not only the traditionally successful students, but also to help a diversity of students become more involved and successful. My objective is also to advance the teacher-student learning experiences and learning outcomes. Thus, students' evaluation is viewed as a measure of teaching effectiveness. Homework and frequent evaluations guide my practice. The atmosphere is friendly but serious. I come prepared to teach and expect the learner to also be prepared to learn. Having taught at all levels of the academic spectrum, I am willing to take on a variety of learners of different levels. I specialize in tutoring English, History, French, Human Geography, Reading, especially for beginners.
I am a linguist by training and by natural inclination. I speak several languages and understand the pertinence of the structure of language to the learner. Having studied English as a foreign language myself, and used it in all spheres of life, I know the mechanics of the language. I am familiar with the pitfalls the language presents to foreign speakers and therefore anticipate such pitfalls, and tackle them effectively once they present themselves. The explanations that I provide usually draw from the learner's own native language structure where possible, providing learner with what amounts to a eureka moment. To a learner, nothing beats such an understanding.
I have taught French at all levels; university, high school, and elementary levels. I teach the language in a fun way, encouraging both written and oral participation. My resources include teaching through music, art, and drama. I am adept at using interesting stories and captivating methods/materials to hold and keep learner focus.
I am looking forward to sharing my joy of learning success with you soon. Our journey together will be a pleasant and memorable experience.
