My name is Quin A. and I'm an up and coming tutor who is interested in helping anyone needing practical and flexible coaching to improve in reading, reading comprehension, as well as English speaking. I particularly like working with students learning English as a second language. I have been through several different courses to teach ESL and have been able help students from different countries become more comfortable speaking English and adapting to life in the US. My focus is to teach practical language use. In this way, new language skills can be used often and easily put into use right away. It is fun to learn along with the student knowing that each student can help me become a better teacher as well. It is important for everyone to learn from each other.
I have worked in the past with many different foreign students, using various methods such as group sessions, one on one tutoring, online sessions. I have a passion for learning and, being a somewhat different learner, had to experiment with many different type methods in order to keep things exciting and beneficial. It is important to adapt methods for each student knowing that everyone learns differently, and it's best to teach each student how to find what learning techniques work for them as individuals.
Many students today are overlooked in their class and may not feel comfortable enough to speak up in that social setting. One on one tutoring allows a person the proper environment to really grow. I believe that becoming comfortable and proficient with reading will help all, young or old, to accomplish what they want to in the future. It is also a big boost to their self confidence. Moreover, as people learn proper communication skills, they expand their horizons in life. Being able to communicate means closer relationships and the opportunity to reach out and experience different cultures. Language is not just a type of speaking, it is a way of thinking. Thus, by improving in communication one will be able to understand and relate to others. It is my goal to help my students, if possible, to take the first step in starting such a journey. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
