University of Texas, Austin (Biology)
I am a 2013 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin currently holding a bachelor’s degree in Biology. While I majored in biology, I have had experience tutoring in all subjects and have had the most experience tutoring students in elementary math, Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-calculus. Most of my students whom I have tutored have been high schoolers although I have worked with college-age students. I am looking to share my passion of learning with others by tutoring.
My personal approach to tutoring is that I believe that with all students, it is not a merely a lack of knowledge that a student is unable to do well, but a base that needs to be built: something, which requires focusing on the person him or herself. Working with students one-on-one has been very an enjoyable experience for me. In my past experiences tutoring, I have realized teaching may require approaching subject material from many different angles. This has helped me to become more sensitive to the needs of others. Ultimately, I have a passion and motivation to see my students grow academically and become intuitive and independent thinkers and learners. This is possible for any student with time, practice, and hard work.
I placed out of integral and differential calculus at the university level with my Advanced Placement Calculus BC exam. I also scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT exam math section.
I have credit for almost 100 hours of a variety of science classes at the university level.
I scored a 5 on the Chinese Advanced Placement Exam.
I scored in the 97th percentile on the SAT reasoning exam writing section.
I am a commended scholar for the PSAT.
I have taught students of a variety of ages from children to adult.
In addition to being patient person by nature, I have had considerable experience working with students who have special needs.
I have experience teaching history and have made straight As in every history and government class at the university level.
I made region orchestra every year I tried out as a cellist and have had over ten years of experience as a concert pianist and cellist.
I was ranked in the top 10 on the Clements Varsity Tennis team.
In order to help me more effectively prepare for each lesson, please do not hesitate to let me know what you or your child needs help on before the lesson. I have a flexible schedule, so I can provide additional tutoring time if needed. I am a 2013 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin currently holding a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Edward is an amazing tutor who helped my daughter catch up when she fell behind in her Algebra II class due to being sick. Edward was patient and provided the knowledge and support for her to catch up on her assignments. He stayed however long was needed to help her get her assignments done. He was easy to reach by email as well as text, and always responded promptly. We liked him so much we plan to use him as a tutor for the upcoming school year.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
