Thank you for your recent request for a tutor in English. My name is James S. Please allow me to introduce my tutoring approach and background experience. After knowing this I believe you will select me to be your tutor. My passion is teaching conversational English. The personal approach that I take in tutoring is to allow the student to feel comfortable and relaxed in the academic setting. Learning English should be enjoyable. Of course, there must be initial level assessment (e.g., listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Once I determine the student’s level, I would supplement my teaching with relevant workbooks, games, activities, etc. In essence, I consider learning English to be a joy and not a chore. Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Master of Arts (M.A.), and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree (D.D.). In addition, I am certified in teaching English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) as well as Teaching English as a Foreign Language (T.E.F.L.). I have had several years of teaching experience in public education in Texas (K-12), as well as tutoring English to high school, university, and professional adults in Hong Kong and China. In reviewing my tutoring approach to conversational English as well as my teaching background experience, I would like for you to consider me as your tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
