I am a public school teacher and have been one for 37 years. I have been ESL certified for 24 years. I have had great success with many students. I have a history of bringing students from beginner level to advanced level or advanced high level in one year or less. I believe in English immersion and teaching vocabulary in context, rather than in isolation. I focus on reading and writing at the same time as speaking and listening, as reading and writing are evaluated more often in school, and vital to school success. This summer, I will be the lead ESL teacher for my building's summer school session. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
